Exhaust question

I have been looking to make my roush axle backs louder and I was thinking doing cat delete with x pipe and I wanted to see if anyone has that and how it sounds. Is it worth doing that? The only sucky part is that if I take the cats off I heard you have to get a tune.

Which would sound better h or x and I do have emissions but I was going to put the cats on when it's time and then take them off because it would help make it louder.

I think he means with stock cats it's not loud enough... I had offroad xpipe with GT500's and it wasn't loud enough for me so I went roush... Still seems a little too quiet sometimes

Also no drone with my setup... Or at least not too much because if there is drone it cannot be heard over the exhaust note

Re: Exhaust question

Yeah, that's what I figured. I just have the axle-backs and worry about pissing off the neighbors on the initial warm-up (I get an early start nearly every day). Fotrunately I'm not the only loud car--there's a couple of full drag cars on the street & a really loud diesel F350 that is a DD.

I love the roush but you can only really hear it when you get on it other then that it doesn't sound like a true muscle car.

Re: Exhaust question

I need to keep my cats, too ... so I am looking into the Ford Racing Boss side-pipe exhaust. It's pricey ... but I heard a couple of vids on the interwebs and it sounds awesome. Yeah, I love my Roush axle-backs but I want more!

What type of volume / performance gain from shorty headers keeping the cats? I am primarily looking for sounds - another 10hp for the extra cost of a header install is not worth it (to me).

I have long tubes and high flow cats.. Sound is really nice! Power is this.. Right now I gained about 20hp and around the same tq but when I change superchargers it will b the difference in 40+hp. So if ur staying NA might not b worth it to u but I believe headers change ANY axle back sound. I had flowmasters as an axle back when I did the headers. I changed them to an open race muffler(Ford racing fr500s) retuned and gained another 9hp and 15tq. Headers r worth it IMO

Don't waste your money on shorty headers. The gains are minimal at best. Save for a good set of long tubes, they really wake the car up.
If you set a pair shorties next to the factory manifolds the differences are slim to none.

I don't want to void the warranty changing the headers I want to stick with something small right now. So I thought x pipe with cat delete should wake it up but not sure if anyone else has that set up. If so do you like it?

Won't it void ur warranty if it's not ford racing and dealership installed?

Re: Exhaust question

You really need a tune for that O/R X man. Sh*t can the warranty if you want to play and make power!

Re: Exhaust question

I already have a Steeda 93 tune, so my warranty is already in question. More of something in the line of things I can do myself ... I couldn't do headers on my own. It's beyond my automotive skills, and this is my daily driver.

Another +1 on that. Ford doesn't fix **** anyways, and if they do it will cost more of your time than if you had just fixed it yourself.
