Tremec magnum xl swap

I posted about this several months ago and a few people have wanted to know more about it. I posted this in another thread. Here it goes.

I got the transmission from and had the install done at Amp Performance igear is 2.97, .80 fifth, .63 sixth. I had the rear end re-geared *3.73, she rips through first and second, an axle shaft replaced, and the pan hard bar replaced also with the trans swap. I went with a McLeod RST clutch, this clutch is really great and worth the money. I do not remember what companies drive shaft i ended up with, it is aluminum. Total price with labor was $7,800, there is more that I'm not listing to try and keep this short. The transmission is performing better than expected so far, actually being able to feel the rpms, because of it being a direct top mount shifter, is exactly what should have been done in bringing the 5.0 back. If i wanted to feel like was in a cadillac i would have bought a ctsv. There is sounds that might scare some if you had never driven a pretty much "race" setup drivetrain before, or just dont have a more than average mechanical sense of what sounds are safe and which are bad. Anyone around Phx,az thats looking into this swap and would like to check it out is more than welcome PM me. Hope i answered your questions if you have any more lemme know

Glad to hear it's going well, although I wouldn't expect much. I actually stopped at NMRA BG and talked to the tremec rep about the swap. My dad was down there as well and he commented on the way home that he was pretty shocked that every vendor I talked to (even the ones that had nothing to gain from it) commented on and agreed about how the MT82 was far from an ideal choice for this platform. The Tremec guy also let it slip that Ford has no less than three test vehicles right now with Tremec T56 magnums in them, so I wouldn't put it outside the realm of possibility that these may be in the 2015 Mustang.

It seems like a no-brainer, but it's a bit cost prohibitive. I don't have $8k to replace a part that's mostly working right now. Can you give us a more detailed breakdown on how much parts cost and how much labor was? Did you get any kind of warranty from the shop that did the install (factory drivetrain warranty is obviously toast at this point).

In regards to the noise ... I would gladly take some racecar noises over notchy/crunchy shifts and getting locked out of gear at a redlight. Did you have problems with your MT82 before the swap or did you switch for performance reasons?
