3.73 shift knob

Hey guys , i went a couple of times to the dealer, and i always find a brand new mustang rocking a nice shift knob , not that ugly leather one but a black/white/silver ball with the boot holder, so today i was kind of curios and checked it out , the one that had the good loking knob was indeed a 3.73, which makes me wonder and hope( since i got the 3.73) if this is a part of the 3.73 package or if it happens to be a coincidence and this knob comes included with a different type of package

The silver ball shift knob is part of the 401a package, it is not something they give you with the 3.73 gears unless you also have the 401a, or a boss

Yep, 3.73 gears are just that. I have already replaced my stock knob with a nice retro one from here: Shift Knobs - Custom Shifter Knobs by EPCO

I have two shift knobs I switch around. I popped off the plastic shift pattern on the stock leather one sanded it down and painted it green sanding it also between coats. Also have the tremec knob that came with my transmission.

I changed my setup like 3 times already, there's so many choices... I'm pretty happy with this new setup

I really like the shifter, it was one of the more noticeable mods, but since u haven't gotten your car yet. It's probably ok to stay with the stock shifter till u get bored with it like I did cuz the stock throws are fairly short. I know u wanna rip right into it but I think the hoods on the 13s look great as as

A shift knob makes a big diff in shift precision over the stock plastic/leather thumb. I just used AM inexpensive one and it's a nice simple black 8-ball retro look like the old Hurst in my 88. Like people say, lots of choices out there.

I have the roush shift knob myself. Definitely shifts cleaner than the stock one. Now I just need to get a better shifter!

I have the Roush shifter as well but I still have trouble going from 2nd to 3rd when shifting fast or getting on it. I sometimes cannot get 3rd until I double clutch. Is it just me?

I have the actual shifter. I have seen other post about something on the shifters that can be programmed out or turned off. Or is it me that is the problem?

You can't rush these things with any of the stock shifters. You need smooth open palm shifting directly at the gates. These 6 speeds have really narrow gates and if you ram it like a Hurst shifter T5 you can easily botch it. The shifters also get better with some miles on, too.

That is good to know, I didn't think it was all me but wanted to hear it from someone else lol. I have driven a lot of manuals and didn't think it was all me.

I honestly have had very few issues shifting quickly, but when I do it is when I'm trying to quickly go to 3rd and I'll get stuck between 3rd and 5th, then I usually hit 5th lol, and slowly chug the rest of the way down the drag strip

it's a touch tricky. I've got the maximum speed down from running at the track. Force it faster and risk a missed shift. I still use fingers to pull the knob back and open palm to move it forward. Maybe missed 2 or 3 shifts in 50 passes or so.

I've been driving stick cars since 1979 or so. They had 3 speeds on some when I started and 4 was pretty exotic, as was any form of overdrive.

I bang my gears like I'm punching a d0uche-bag in the face and I never let up on the gas. When you hear my car shift at the track it sounds like a automatic. I've only missed a shift or two on my test drive and never again with the stock shifter. Now I have the MGW and its just a incredible piece of machinery that gives confident positive shifts every time. I beat on this shifter and it still feels like the day it was installed, over 4000 hard miles ago. 99% of time it's the driver and not the car that's the problem.

That knob is 300 bucks. Better off getting a flush one or something. My car was in a accident and during the transfer from tow truck to salvage place to the body shop my knob was stolen. Good thing my insurance paid for it as it was in their yard before going to a dealer and the dealer had pics of it when it arrived to show it wasn't them,

Myself, I like the leather. I'm trying to find a nice full leather wrapped shift knob similar to the oem take off without the insert. Just a full leather wrap. I suppose I could find one and have it wrapped.....

I hate the leather feel. I love mine except in winter when it's frozen and you can't barely touch it to shift
