Nav System Update

Anyone know if we are supposed to get periodic firmware updates for the nav systems. When I was purchasing my 2011, I asked the dealer about map updates. He said you can just come and get map updates at no charge.
Does anyone have any experience yet?

No charge? That sounds kinda fishy. Wife has a '10 Prius and they want $300 for an update. No way! I ordered my GT without the nav. BTW, does everything become unchangeable when the car is moving? That's how it is on her car. Really stinks. Hope the freebies are for real!

I doubt that... On had a 2009 merc with sync and nav... Every year I had a mailed offer that for $$$ I could update my nav map...

I rarely used the nav, and when I do now, my phone does a way better job. I even have a nifty dash mount and with the Bluetooth stream, the GPS direction play through the speakers...

Yes. I bought my wife's new 2011 Taurus 3 months ago and hoped they (dealer) would give me a deal on the map update (it's 2 years old already).
Yeah, nada.
I ordered the Navteq update, and it was approx $200. It will only update maps on 1 vehicle, but it will software update, and GraceNote update on multiple vehicles.
So I got a software update/GraceNote for the Stang, but I will probably pay for the map update next year for the Stang.

Well, thanks folks. I'll be going in for my final free oil change soon and I'm gonna throw this at 'em. While I agree it would be surprising for them to provide something like this at no charge, my salesman DID say they would. Whether he wasn't thinking about what he was saying or just being a fast talking salesman, I will be planning on blowin a gasket when they say they won't. Which will at least ruin their day and maybe get them to think twice before they try buttering up the next stang buyer.
