If the freebies were enough to cover the bills I'd be all over it We're losing 2million man hours next year, roughly 2000 people of the 5000 we have that rebuild numerous Army vehicles. Not good. I may have to start being a Colombian cocaine mule

When that happened it also messed up the mt-82. This causing a transmission replacement that wasn't covered under warranty.

If you're gonna hop up your horse power and torque with whatever mod you are gonna do, I would recommend a one piece drive shaft as insurance. 800 for a driveshaft or 2-3k for another mt-82.

I didn't go with another mt-82, so my fixit bill was much more than 2-3k.
2-3k? I live in Canada and it was 5 grand for the tranny. It was covered under warranty but ford showed me the price of it. That's the price the dealer got from ford too.

My problem was 2nd and 3rd gears. Around 24000 3rd would always grind no matter how I shifted. The synchros went and the gears were grinding. They replaced the gears and synchros but messed up reverse and couldn't go into it. After my car being in the shop for a month straight I said to hell with it and demanded a new transmission

What tranny would you recommend as a replacement ? And I'm surprised there is a recall yet

Tremec Magnum XL or the T6060 out of a GT500.

I don't think they did recall it. There was an investigation, but not enough evidence. Supposedly it has gotten better over the years.

Does the gt500 bolt up or do you have to modify?

I'm pretty sure it bolts right up. If not, you would just need a different bell housing.

As far as I know, the only direct bolt in replacement is the tremec magnum xl. Doesn't come with clutch or driveshaft though, the stock clutch can not be reused. JPC was the testing partner with tremec to develop the magnum xl for the s197 type mustang, from what I read correct me if Iam wrong though.

Sorry my bad, I never researched price of a replacement mt82, I knew for a fact if I had broken all that I had broke I wasn't gonna replace with new units that I had broken in 11,000 miles the way I use my car. I paid 3,495 dollars plus tax and waited two months for my tremec, serial number 66. Number 69 was in the same shop I had do the install just didn't have the first gear ratio I wanted.
