6.2L In a Stang!

What's yall's opinion on if Ford converted the 6.2L SOHC Raptor V8 into a high revving mustang motor??

IF it happened it would be a Shelby only thing, I don't know that there's enough room to fit the 6.2 in the mustang, especially not the new ones, they're down sizing the car and the 5.8 barely fits

I think they should stick with lower displacement, it looks a hell of a lot better when a 5.0 makes as much horsepower as a much higher displacement 6.2L LS engine.

I would love it! Keep with the true muscle car persona! Big motor, bad steering and little brakes! Haha, I think it would be great though. Then have Hennessy twin turbo it! 800+ hp. It would be awesome!

Orrrrr, have about a 480HP natural motor in a car with IRS, huge brakes, and the best American steering...aka, the 2015 mustang!

Haha, yeah I guess that would be better. I still like the idea of a TT mustang though, or twin super.

I think something that gives the Mustangs it's character is its LRA, maybe it's just me but I think they should stick with it for a while instead of IRS.

49 years isn't long enough? The Mustang is one of the last holdouts using a stick out back. Actually, off the top of my head, I can't think of a passenger car platform still using one except the Mustang.

And yet some how the mustang handles better than both the Camaro SS and Challenger.

As we like to say here in the south, if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

You can attribute that handling difference to weight.

Is this something Ford has talked about somewhere in a article or is this something you just want to get opinions on?

Twin turbo the beast, irs, big brakes all around and keep it looking old school and you would have a winner for sure. Holy crap it would be hard to create traction though. I bet it would sound amazing though.

This.

It's why I spent so long waffling between getting a sixxer or the GT. Power & sound won out, but it was a tough choice for a while--anf the GT isn't bad for balance.

Agree. In fact, while not for me, the 2.3L EcoBoost car rumored may be the handling king of the bunch with all that torque and light front end. The only problem I'd have with a 6.2L V8 is all that weight up front. I think it's moot, Ford will not have a GT with anything bigger than a 5.0V8. The GT500, maybe. Would love to see a NA 6.2L over a 5.8L Supercharged engine. Gotta have 600hp for the GT500, don't know how to hit that without forced induction.

Now the new guy at Shelby is saying that with future government regs, it looks like it's going to be 4 banger Turbos, so be prepared for the big SC engines to go away. The government will ruin the car industry yet again, just like in the 70's.

It don't have to a v8 to be fast look at the GT R it just depends on how well it's built

That's a large part of why I went for the V8. The V6 probably would have been better for dodging cones, but I couldn't pass on the extra two cylinders.

How about this instead of spending time on a dumb idea like a 6.2 in a mustang how about hybrid horses take a Ferrari motor like a 460 challenge or smaller 4.6 twin turbo and make even more Hp yeah I thought so save gas even

The Mustang has had a small block in it more than not... We all know the 5.0 can handle 600+ horses. Just keep the 5.0 and up the horse power to about 450 more than 500 hp starts to get a little un-streetable without wheel, tire and suspension upgrades.

IMO the new mustang GT should be a 450hp 302 with 4 wheel independent suspension. The Boss 302 @ 500hp.
