As some of you have heard or read... My dad and i have been looking for a mustang as my first car. I dont want you guys to make a decision based on my age because I am responsible enough to not go crazy with the cars. I have 2 options..

OPTION 1 - Within 2 weeks get a used 2006-09 v8 mustang and mod it as much as i want.

Or

OPTION 2 - wait til summer (or possibly october) to get a new 2013 mustang gt 5.0 no mods

Id like if you guys can put yourself in my place and give me your opinions on what would be better kn the longrun! Thankyou!

OPTION 2

I went around with my '11 5.0 for a year with zero mods and I was awestruck every time I drove it, looked at it and the '13 has the track apps which is the only other thing I really wish my '11 had.

Worst case, 8 months is not that bad of a wait. I waited almost 2 years for my 5.0.

welcome to life, you won't always get things you want right away. Waiting and getting what you want will make it all the better. Also make you more responsible.

Definitely wait for the 5.0 it's gonna probably suck not being able to mod it, but its fine its gonna be your 1st car anyway and u should be thankful for it. I would probably suggest staying off ME and not getting bad influences from us :-p lol. Who knows, if u play your cards right and work hard enough to be able to mod your new 5.0 and that speaks volumes and u will definitely appreciate your ride more knowing you worked hard to make it what it is even if its minor mods... U have to throw on a pair if axlebacks at least, that's what makes these cars sound like a Mustang

I definantly agree with every one else...if you buy the 4.6 and put all the basic boltons you can staying na you would be close to the stock power on the 5.0 so mods on the 5.0 arent needed right away and you will have a good platform to build on when the cars paid off.. IMHO go 5.0

I would go with a new 5.0.. Beleive it or not my buddy had a 4.6L 2008 with a vortech blower on it and its pretty damn fast... I took him for a ride in my stok 5.0 with my Roush axle backs and he couldnt believe the power that came with my 5.0 stock... Mind u his blown 4.6 was still faster but with some bolt ons and a really good tune i could give his blown 4.6 a run for his money and I would still be NA.. IMHO wait for 5.0..... Good things come to those that wait

U can probably speed up the process and get it this summer... Cut grass, be a male whore, whatever tickles your pickle... I got my 5.0 as early as I did by working crazy hours and finding a 2nd job, but it was well worth it

Exactly. And by doing this the car means so much more.

I would take the "new" 5.0 versus a used 03-04 cobra it unmolested and has new technology and pretty equal stock for stock

I say get a nice gently used 11-12. 5.0 performance at not so much 5.0 price. Can easily find a good one for under 30k

I brought a 2010 4.6 for a great price from a friend who was buying a 5.0. Although I love my 2010 after I've modded it, I'm already saving for a 2014/2015 5.0 depending on what they do with it. So I say go with the 5.0.

Thanks for all the responses guys! And to let some of you know, i am only 16, id love to start working but i am too busy with school. I am a sophomore on a one way path to a great medical school with my grades. Buying me a car is more of a reward from my father. Im Not getting a car because I'm a "spoiled kid". Also because i have helped my dad sell his building priced at almost 2 mil!

I bought a 2010 and traded it in 6 months later on my 13 5.0

Should've never bought that 4.6....

lol agree. I hate being that guy too, but a first car should never be new and should never be this high powered and personally regardless of the situation the kid can get a summer job. Saying you have school and can't hold a job too is funny. I dunno about everyone else here but I hold a main job that works me 50 hours a week and a secondary job that holds me 20-30 hours a week. Life is going to hit you upside the head hard come college.

last time a thread like this came up it created such a controversy it got closed. I wouldn't be surprised if this one does too.

The only problem with getting such a nice car at a young age is that your expectations get a lot higher the older you get... I can garuntee the next vehicle the young man gets will not be lower then a GT Mustang.... Its better to get a used vehicle as a first car perferably a sh*t box and enjoy it... When i was 16 i drove my dads Jeep TJ which he allowed me to mod as long as it was my money i worked for and i dont care what anyone says every kid should start working at a young age so they no what its like to earn a buck or two... And when i was 19 he signed it over to me... I apreciated that car so much... And when it was finally time to buy my 5.0 at the age of 22 i bought it with my own hard earned money... The best part about my stang is that i bought it on my own and its my name on the ownership...

I say that if your parents are willing buy you a brand new car then by all mean go for it. I had a 7k limit when my grandparents bought my first car as a 16th bday present, which is badass, and found a awesome mustang. I learned how to work on cars with that car and drive this absolute **** out of it. Moral of the story is now that I have the car I do now I appreciate it A LOT cause I know what it's like to have no air in dead if summer if anybody knows what I mean

I worked 39 hours a week in high school. At 16, my dad drove me to find a job. 2 days after I turned 16, I got a job and he collected rent. My first car, had no heat, no air, and was what I could afford. My daughters first car won't be new.

I'm not to sure about everyone else, but my first car was a brand new Ford Ranger (what I wanted at the time) and I loved that truck, I lifted it on 33" mudding tires and also supercharged it as well with a custom Eaton set up. It was beautiful, and I loved it! As I got older my tastes did grow, I upgraded to a 2007 Saleen S331 Supercharged, paid that truck off in three months and now I have been fortunate enough to be able to afford another car, my 2013 Mustang GT. The only thing I can say is if the kid wants a 13 GT go for it, it will end up driving him to earn better grades through school and then get an excellent job after graduation. Please keep in mind that like mine your tastes will change over time, I can afford most any vehicle I want, and I am very fortunate for that, but I have obviously been loyal to Ford and I feel no matter how much I make in the long run, I will probably buy Ford til the day I die!

P.s. I'm thinking of a 2016 F150 platinum 4x4 super crew next, might have to start building that 6 car garage soon we will see!

I also was stuck With the same delema. I am 16 have been working for 4 and a half years now and was time to buy my first car. I really really wanted a mustang. So I narrowed it Down to a 2004 svt cobra or a 2013 5.0. First off before you guys go saying oh rich kid got handed his car no. That's not what happened. Second don't forget that most people buy a mustang to drive hard and push it. Now I'm not saying all used mustangs were beaten to hell or just abused the crap out of but know what your getting in before you buy. Now to the 5.0. My final decision was actually to buy a 5.0 because I found a deal I couldn't pass up. I wound up getting a 2013 track pack with 2000 miles on it and paid about. What a v6 would cost. Bought it from dealership got extended warranty and all that stuf. I LOVE IT. It's like no other car I've ever driven. Now don't forget your going to be a new driver ( like me ) and there are a lot of idiots on the road these days and there could be the chance of an accedent that's why I really don't speed especially around traffic. You need to realize that you have a fast car and you need to respect it. Also don't forget if you buy a new 5.0'you won't be able to do many mods with out voiding the warranty. And finally you really should and especially if you get the new 5.0 you need to wash it about once a week and wax it once and a wile. I commit to washing it every weekend if I can I can't stand people who dont take care of there mustangs.
Well good luck with your decision! Either way you will love your car

Can I put it this way? I skipped my senior year of highschool and went straight to college.

Got my 2011 5.0 at 22 and I am 24 now. I am the only one to put a dime towards it.
