Futile thinking related to traction

Is it futile to think I can get good street traction on any tires to fit stock 19x8.5 wheels?

I should just bite the bullet and buy a staggered set of wheels... Thoughts and opinions welcome.

you should do pretty good with a 265 on the 8.5 wide, if you are near stock power levels that should work rather well on the street~ my 295s hold up fine at my power levels~ not super sticky or anything but they get the job done.

Would you recomend 265/45,40 or 35? Does anyone have pics of 265s on 19X8.5s?

Any yes, pretty close to stock power. Currently the car is just lowered with the normal suspension mods. CIA and Tuner is on its way to the house now. I would like to get a 125-50 Shot in the near future though.

The taller the side wall the better bite you'll get for traction. A side wall like this will work.

Yes. They're drag radials. I'll be running slicks at the track.

Love the wheels. Not sure I could pull that off with my stock 19s in the front.

The contact patch is important, but more so is the tire compound.
What do you use the car for? DD or weekend warrior? Have you considered a drag radial or an UHP tire? Softer compound will give you the traction you are looking for. Check out the offerings from Nitto, and Mickey Thompson, to name just two.

Nice choices, your ride looks great.
My next set of tires are going to be the nitto's as well. Glad you like 'em.
I'd try the Mickey's but they don't make a 305 yet for the rears.

Thanks. It was interesting trying to find the right size. I would have thought that 275s on a 9 inch wide wheels would have stuck out a bit more. Guess it depends on the manufacturer as well. Also, since my car is a DD I am hoping for some decent mileage out of them. I bet I get less than 10k on em. I drive less than a mile to work with 44 turns so i get the normal 2/3 years out of tires, just not many miles. The auto shops are always confused when I bring my cars in for an oil change and ask them to rotate and balance the tires. I always get in a discussion with the shop manager about them recommending rotating my tires every 5k miles and how that would not work for me. If I did that I would only rotate them once a year or every other year and I drive my car everyday. Anyways...sorry just rambling.

I am looking at getting 19X9.5 all around.

I want to get the Mickeys but they come in a 285-35-19 and not a 275-40-19

anyone have any thoughts on running a 285 that is not as tall as that particular 275 in the front? be about an inch wider.

Mine are 275/35s in the front. There is a little bulge so I would think they would work well on a 9.5 inch wheel as well.

I love the way my wheels look but they are stock 18x8 and i feel they are too narrow, specially in the rear.i got 235s on there now.what's the widest i can go for a near stock dd.

My experience having staggerd tires was on my old BMW. I put M3 rims on my 328 and what I found was the rears would wear out before the fronts. Which is normal but the hassle came when I had to replace the rears but couldn't find the same tire model to match the fronts. And since I am pretty anal with my tires, I would buy four new ones. It became pretty costly, so this time around, I am not going to do it. But if you can afford it, go for it!!!

Feels like it.Lol. Alley driveway turns, several neighborhood turns, parking lot turns, parking space turns. It adds up pretty quick.

I just re-read my post. Correction: It's less than a mile "both" ways with 44 turns total.
