Well there are a bazillion oil threads already with a bazillion opinions. The best? Amsoil by far. What weight? I suggest 10w-30 since you live in Texas.

There was a tread within the last month that digresses into people recommending Gatorade or beer or whatever.

I Live in dallas, I use 5w 50. I will say though, motorcraft is dog****. Ford makes it, which is why it is the 'recommended.

^ that's because you have a track pack car, they recommend 5w50 for tracking the car, aside from an oil cooler, your motor is no different than any other '13 coyote. 5w30 is just fine in Miami

Yea I always used 5w30 maybe after the 10k miles I would go with something heavier. I seen many 5.0 with ticking problem from the 5w50.

I made my first oil change tonight, and went with Royal Purple, but honest to god the factory oil filter was so loose I'm surprised it wasn't leaking oil.

Mobil 1 hasn't been a full synthetic for years now. You do know that don't you?

The reason the track pack take 8.5 quart is BC of the oil cooler right? I been thinking about an external oil cooler as a possible upgrade.
Yea I hear that Mobil 1 isn't a 100% full synthetic but I have used it for a very long time and even my BMW dealership used it as well so I like it.

Yup. The Ford cooler is only like ~$140 on AM IIRC.

How can you tell if your car has a track pack? Mine is a 2013 and has Brembo brakes, it has a manual transmission with this chrome steel ball shifter and navigation, but I am not sure about the rest of the stuff. Plus its a convertible, perhaps they don't come with a track pack?

Thanks and plus it looks like your rocker covers are red. Maybe that's an indication because mine are not.

Does your shifter have a silver engraved metal ball?

No I painted them red, they all come grey. The track pack has the same shift ball as the boss 302. I will take a pic of mine when I get home.

I'm running Mobil 1 in this car. Usually I run Royal Purple in everything, just changing it up a bit this time.

What I don't understand is how companies like royal purple and amsoil would have better oil than Mobil or Castrol . The larger companies would have large budgets to fund state of the art R&D and the smaller companies wouldn't. Perhaps the differences are all in our minds?

bigger companies doesn't always mean a better product. Specially if they have a "name"

It's not a in our heads or evil capitalists thing. This is economics, engine oil is a very elastic good. Meaning price variation causes an exaggerated response in demand. 90% (fake stat!) of people think $9+ for a quart is ridiculous and wouldn't do it even if it was infused with unicorn farts. We are a small niche market that sees value even at $10, so there are few firms that can survive (2 major companies) serving us and they will naturally be smaller. However, they can devote all of their resources to creating the very best product because that is their only competitive advantage (our deciding factor as consumers).

This is also why synthetic blends are so popular. The price hike is within the comfort zone, and the avg joe has heard synthetic is 'better' so he will pay an extra buck. There are many, many more of these consumers, so companies that cater to them are naturally much larger

My buddy runs a race truck. On an engine dyno, it picked up 8hp by switching to amsoil alone. Amsoil used to be a highly kept secret, the motor builders from roush told him about it many years ago.

Ok I get it, smaller niche companies can put their efforts towards building a better product because there is a small market of people willing to pay the higher prices. So I am sold, Amsoil it is on my next oil change!

Amsoil is good stuff. A "true" synthetic unlike Mobil 1.
