Hi everyone, I just picked up a 2014 mustang gt. I am interested in getting an axle back. I read a few reviews and watched tons of vids on youtube. But I still cant decide on whether I should get the roush axle backs or maybe something else. I want it to be pretty loud whenever I accelerate and especially at WOT. But I really don't want to have too much drone in the cabin. I also like the exhaust to have some deceleration pops and burbles. My friend has the gt500 axle backs and they sound relatively loud. how much louder/deeper are the roush than the gt500's?
I have Borla s-types and they Are great. No drone, deep and quiet when you want them to be, aggressive and loud under wot. Roush is great to. What I have heard is that roush is raspier and higher pitched than Borla so it's more like a NASCAR sound. You can't go wrong with gt500 either.
I second the borla s-types. I had the roush and it was raspier. If you want a deep muscle car sound you want borla. BTW roush will not be deeper than the GT500 ab. It will be a tad louder and way raspier. Borla will be way louder and way deeper than either one. Also zero drone on the borla under any application. You will get nasty drone with the roush if you ever remove the cats. You won't have this with the GT500 or Borla axle backs.
Get the Roush! Iv'e heard lots of different axlebacks in person. I have them on my 13 GT. Awesome sound and NO drone in any gear. I love the gurgle and pops when downshifting. Its all personal preference but the Roush never sound "raspy" to me. A nice deep rumble that turns heads and gets lots of compliments. I have cats though and if you plan on doing more than just axlebacks I can't comment on how they sound. HTH.
Having had the roush and now having the borla I do not agree with this post. They are no where near as deep as other brands. Borla, flow masters, gt500 etc will all be far deeper.
Yes people do like the sound, but it isn't what other people like or want it is what you want. The roush doesn't sound like what you want.
Try the Magnaflow street comp series!! At idol. A low deep rumble , at wot super loud Lowe growl!!
I have them and I get so many compliments in how bad a** my car sounds!! I swear to them!! I had Roush axle backs and these make them sound like a go cart !!!!
It all depends on the end goals, if only an axleback is planned then Roush is a good solution... But in the case of nosympathy, he's running o/r x pipes and made it NASCAR loud with drone. Borla S Type are loud and deep, a little pricey but u get what u pay for... I have the S type axlebacks and they sound amazing
I was going off the fact he wanted a deep sound. Possibly deeper than the GT500 which the S-Types will be, magneflow will be, flow masters will be, but the roush will not. My borla are still NASCAR loud just not NASCAR raspy like the roush were.
Thanks for the responses guys, Im still a little unsure of what to get. So the borlas and flowmasters are deeper than the roush? The only problem is my budget for exhaust is around $500 so borla is not an option. How are the flowmaster outlaw mufflers? Do they drone too much? How loud do they really get compared to the roush?
they are gonna be a decent amount louder than the roush, but you will get a lot of drone. Kinda have to choose what you want here.
Borla will give you loud loud loud with zero drone ever. Roush will give you zero drone if you have cats, the moment the cats are gone, drone out the ass. Flowmasters and Magnaflows will give you drone. I don't honestly know how bad as I have never been in a car with them, just heard them on other cars standing behind them and often you hear a mention of drone. Maybe someone with them can say what it is like.
GT500 will be zero drone but will not be as loud as any of the others. You could look at the Corsa exhaust, few people on here have them, apparently really deep sound and zero drone. Might push your budget just slightly though at 600 I think they are?
Why not consider bassani? I have their catback along with stainless works LTs and I must say of all the muscle cars I have had this is the deepest muscle sound I've ever had since fuel injection came along. No rasp at all in any gear at any rpm.
I have the Magnaflow comp series!! I love them!! So many compliments on the sound!! Even a ford tech told me how good they sound!! It's that old school deep tone like the older muscle cars! I get a little drone at 2000 rpm! But that's it!! It just gives my car a bad a** loud low tone at WOT.. And a deep rumble at idol!! I'm happy with them!! 10 x better than Roush!!
I have the borla S type but always would like to hear the stainless works in person. Out of your price range i know but it is definately unique and rare to see on the street

I just put Roush axle backs on my 13 GT and love them. Like you I debated between different brands and I wanted a deep rumble. I opted for Roush because I didnt want my car to be too loud. I wanted to be able to drive and still listen to the stereo or have a conversation with a passenger. I'm very happy with my choice. I think they have the perfect tone for my needs (wants).
Love my Roush...I want someone to buy the Off-Road Pro Chamber and pair it with the Roush. I am curious what it will sound like. I think that is my next mod. If you have it, please post vid.
