I just installed the Barton shifter and two post bracket and its like night and day. Reverse is a little harder to get in, but that's probably a good thing. The shifts feel great and no more trouble going from 1st to 2nd.

The Hurst is actually a pretty nice shifter. It's gotten a solid 5 stars out of 41 reviews on American Muscle. I had this shifter and never had a problem at all. And to say that it's worse than stock is definitely reaching lmao. Shifts are smooth, sturdy and short.

I'm sure it's better than stock, but for these MT82s its proven that MGW and Barton are the ones to go with... Some ppl think of Hurst from prior experience with their old car... What matters is what's best for this particular car

It has solid shift points with a nice short throw. I enjoyed it.

I got to drive a guys car that had one, it was terrible. Shifter had way more play than the stock shifter. Even the guy admitted it was a mistake. Like the other guy said, he purchased it off past experience.

MGW or Barton or go home!

The post has a tendency to come loose at the two bolts. I had the same problem and was kind on the fence about it until I discovered the source. 15 minutes and a small dab of blue thread lock later, solid as a rock.

He'd only had it in the car a week when I got too drive it...said it was like that from day 1. He was going to sell the Hurst soon as he got the MGW and let me drive it too see if I wanted it. Told him no way.

Am I the only person here that has no problem with the stock shifter? I have never missed a shift or had any grinding gear issues. I hear a lot of complaints with it but I seem to use it problem free.

I dunno, sounds like possibly a bad instal or faulty parts. I'm not a Hurst fan boy so really all I can do is share my experience and it was a good one. But I definitely understand that they're not for everybody.

You are a lucky man. I have "adjusted" to it and kinda let it do the guiding instead of throwing it directly into the gear I want I let the shifter line it up and push it in.

Not too say I still don't miss shifts under spirited driving. Far too many times ive mussed 3rd going from second because I am trying to throw gears fast. Slow steady shifting I can blow throw gears with ease.

Mine is problem free when driving it like your suppose to. When racing tho, it sometimes locks me out of 3rd, but not always. When some one comes up with one that feels like the stock, I'll change in a heart beat. The stock shifter is already a short throw.

The dealer I go to is a Roush dlr and I asked there Mustang tech directly , he quoted me $ 150 to put it in. Short money to keep the warranty. Once it's in ill get you my total cost

Shifter from Ford Racing aka the Barton shifter installed today by the dealer. So far I'm impressed shifts great. Going into reverse is tough but other than that the shifter rocks.

I heard this multiple times that getting it into reverse is hard. What makes it more difficult then stock to get it in to reverse.

Well there's a trick to it, start out to the right push down then go into reverse , it seems to work fine. I've only had it a day so ill keep working on that. Other than that its huge difference over stock . Definitely would recommend it.

Differences to the stock in regard to reverse is with the stock you just push down and to the left. On the Barton you push down and it does not go in as easily , i found that pushing down to the right then going left into reverse and it goes in smoothly. I think one I get used to it I won't even notice

Does anyone else have issues with 1st or 2nd after install? If I push to far left it locks out those gears.

I've had mine in for a couple days now and it rocks. The reverse spring is stiffer than stock so you don't get reverse and first gear mixed up (that was never an issue in the stock shifter for me). In used to it now and not a problem 1-2-3 is markedly better than stock . As the first of my upgrades I'd do It again in a heartbeat

Does the Barton have a spring adjustment? Maybe you can fool with the adjustment if it does. Just a thought

I just installed my Barton this morning. I am absolutely in love with it. I've been rowing through gears all morning. I now have the Barton 2 Post Bracket coming next week.

When installing it, I noticed a little adjuster on the side for an Allen Key. Any idea what that's for? I got it pre-owned, so it had no reading material.

I ordered the Ford Racing one today too, Part Number M-7210-MGTB. I paid about 416.00 + shipping to Canada for it, but I don't have a price on install yet. Also if you have the Aluminum Silver shift knob, you can't use the white one they ship with the shifter. I am ok with that, because I like my metal shift knob. I will update you all after I have it installed.

Why can't you use the white one?

I gotcha. I thought he was just stating that you physically can't use the white shift ball just because?? Maybe he meant the thread sizes idk. But that would mean you can't use the aluminum one and can use the white one??
