3:73 OR 4:10 For An Auto?

Need some help deciding on gears for my auto.

3:73 OR 4:10 what do you guys think?

It's not my daily driver but it may become later. I do a lot of highway driving but really don't care about the motor noise. How much MPG will is lose with the 4:10 compare to the 3:15 I have right now. I'm leaning towards to 4:10 but would like some input.

I have a shop that will be doing the instal They charging $485+tx
I will also be welding my axle shaft the same time for around $200+tx

Are those decent price's?

4:10s for sure. I've always heard they were the beat for autos.

4.10! I want to go 4.10, with my manual, DD after I do LCA and relocation brackets for sure. What ever you do... You need traction, that is priority number one. For me I have a hard time launching my stock 3.31, but want more after I can get hooked. Also, tires play a large role. Enjoy.

By the way, those prices off a gear are good, a can't find a shop to to it for less then 600.00 labor.

I don't want to do a TC now, Why only 3.31 that's not much more than the 3.15

Because the automatic gearing is different. The fastest auto mustangs have 3.31 gears and torque convertors.

Just look at the gear ratios between an auto and a manual. Exact reason stock gears for the manual are 3.31 and for the auto 3.15.

4.10's for shure.

3.73's are ok but suck if you ever go to the track since they leave you stuck going across in the middle of 4th no matter what.

your correct in thinking that 3.31's aren't really an upgrade, especially without a converter & even then they leave some on the table.

I'll leave you with this, it's my 4.10 geared, stock intake manifold (yep, killed 2 birds with one stone, lol) 2012 auto.

If I'm only going to 3.31, I will leave the stock 3.15 in there.

newby............not really, just never made an account here for whatever reason.

even without a converter (which is where I started obviously) the 4.10's seem to be pretty much the best all around gear IMO. still good milage (low 20's with mine before the converter) & with no converter, manageable on the track with mild d/r's (generally 4.10 stock converter cars 60; in the very high 1.7's/very low 1.8's) but still keep you in the power even crossing at the top of 4th.

a good tune is absolutely crutial though.

I wouldn't buy an auto mustang myself but there are a few guys on here who have a lot of experience and have autos and will heavily disagree with you haha.

I have an auto with 3.73 gears. I wouldn't do 4.10 in a newer stang unless drag racing is your thing. Pricing was just under $500.

How much of a change was the 3.73 from the 3.15?

What tune are you using? Hows your gas MPG?

they can disagree all they want, I proved the point I started out to make last summer.

bottom line is this, after all the 3.31, boss intake, you have to go across in 3rd gear to be fast b/s of the last year, a 4.10 gear, stock intake manifold 7k shift car just destroyed the bolt on n/a record & we weren't trying hard, we were proving a point.

I didn't mean it that way, I really don't mean to start that debate again haha. I actually was saying it more along the lines as I don't have an auto. Just repeating what some of the big auto guys on here say. 3.31 gears and circle D torque convertor and 28" tall tire. I've seen them say that more times than I can count.

It was a pretty noticeable change off the line. I have a steeda 93 octane tune. Gas mileage is around 17-19 on average.

Your right but I don't want to change the TC.

I don't want to dump too much more money in to this car until I see the 15's. and I need more bottom end.LOL. just the gear change with labor and welding the axle shaft are close to $1000 alone

Why do you want to weld the axle shaft? Does it create more traction?

Steeda did a great job with my shift points for the auto. I have zero gear whine as well. I would have them install the gears if you can. I've had 3 sets done by them. All three were done by the same guy and had zero whine.

Where are they located? I'm in Clermont,

I'm having Advance Drive-line in Orlando do the instal. They have been there for ages and they only deal with the drive line and build shafts.

You had 3 set instal in the same car?

Yaa, I also have the BMR brackets, I may weld them in, I was going to avoid welding them, in-case I want to remove them later on.

No 3 different cars and 3 different ratios. They are in pompano close to miami. Probably about 3.5 hours from you.

What gears did you decide to go with? 3.73 or 4.10?
