370z vs 2011 5.0

I test drove a 2013 Nissan 370z and could not believe the power difference between it and my 5.0.

It keeps it close or kind of wins vs a 2010 GT... Mustang v 370Z SMACKDOWN: Ford Mustang GT vs. Nissan 370Z - YouTube

So vs a 5.0? Hmm... They're not using the NISMO in that video though..

370Z has some downsides. I love the car but one huge downside for me is permnant traction control. It is far too intrusive too.

Also agreed it doesn't feel as fast as the 5.0 yet the 370Z is supposed to have an identical 0-60. I'm wondering if that is the 370Z vs a 3.31 geared mustang and not 3.73 when they said they had similar 0-60.

I traded an Infiniti G37s 6mt in for my 5.0. It's almost the same thing, just with a back seat. They're quick, but they're nowhere near Mustang 5.0 quick. It even packed the same 330 hp as the nismo (same engine). It's a nice car that turns heads, but if power is what you want, 3.7 is not the way to go. And Nismo's have some nice performance enhancements, but they're still naturally aspirated. A naturally aspirated 3.7 will never, ever stand up to a 5.0 in a fight. Believe me, I spent 15 months trying to get it to do so. I finally just went to the dark side.

i gotcha gentleman. I think the 370z "looks" faster then it really is. After all it is just a 3.7 under there.

370z is also very small on the inside. I'm only 5'10" and weigh 150 pounds and i felt like a giant in there.

Well i fit in it just fine, but it just felt too small for the type of car it is.

---------- Post added at 07:14 PM ---------- Previous post was at 07:13 PM ----------

Oh and the 350z actually has a bigger interior than the 370z

Really? I've driven his 350Z some and test drove a 370Z and didn't really feel any different in size. I am smaller though. 5'6 but a good bit stockier than you haha. 170lbs from weight lifting.

I was considering a NISMO 370Z when I bought my Mustang. I liked it and it certainly turned a lot of heads, but one of the things that stopped me was headroom (or lack thereof) - the car fit great except for that. I'm pretty tall though so it might not be an issue for many. Otherwise, it seemed like just as much legroom, etc as the Mustang from what I remember.

Nissan lost the plot in that the engine has zero grunt. It couldn't torque the skin off rice pudding. In day-to-day driving, pushing on a big springy exercise ball of torque under the gas pedal is very satisfying. Cars like the Nissan kind of feel like the throttle pedal is disconnected.

Examples of lesser powered cars that hit this mark well are the BMW 135i and the Mazdaspeed 3. They make 260-300 horse feel like a lot more around town and on the highway in a North American driving environment.

I can definitely agree with that - my old Speed 3 was more enjoyable acceleration wise. I didn't really get to push the handling of the NISMO like I wanted to on the test drive but I was very pleased with that aspect from my experience.

In the list of inputs you don't really want, the Speed also got the blood pumping by trying to kill you whenever you tried to apply power around turns and with its shaky high-speed stability. Carefully handled, it could do wonders but, you really needed to stick and rudder it all the time.

I'll grant you, I bolted mine up to about 300 at the tire so, that may not be totally representative. It still did it, just not as wickedly, when it was stock.

The 5.0 BBP I have destroys the Speed in all around performance, not just straight line. Same for the 135 though the domination isn't as obvious as that car actually handles really well with the M package. I'd put the 370 in that category as well and when you factor in the price point of the 370, it's ouch.

I really like the nismo. Yeah it's slow compared to the mustang, but the car feels very refined. With different gears, exhaust and a good tune, those cars make decent power. I would totally one if I were into imports.

Simple formula, we weigh less. It's kind of like the short armed fat kid saying he can bench more and the athletic kid saying, "oh yea, lets sprint down the street". Game over!

I would watch out about those civics though.. I have seen some ultra fast ones before. And what is up with Mercedes' 6.0l v12 biturbo? 22psi and only 621hp??? I would expect 1300 at least... Haha

You really want to go there?
Fact: 350 cbi Chevy has more HP then our 302 cbi Mustangs do.
Fact: Our Mustangs are faster do to a power to weight ratio and gearing.
Fact: You can do what ever you want to a 350Z and it will still cost more and be slower, then a Mustang with the same mods.
Fact: To "blow the Camaro's doors off" you have to have a lot more then a stock Coyote. Stock to stock, the Coyote wins by a nose... basically a door length.

I'm done...I have food to go eat

There both fast cars. The mustang looks better IMO.
