Faux cap

Anyone know how to remove the faux cap? I want to black it out but I'm too paranoid to paint it while its on the car. Tried to see if anyone has taken it off on YouTube but can't find anything on removing it.

Get some tape and newspaper and tape around the whole thing then put newspaper on the whole back end. It'll be fine.

With a lot of patience and a lot of beer.

You need fishing line but it only cuts so far, then you have to pry it off. Have to be careful not to damage the trunk paint when doing it. It is a complete PITA.

Drille a little hole in the center of it and thread a screw into it an pull it off with some pliers. It's only held on with sticky tape. It has 3 pins in it that align it up, but that's it.

Man there's like five plastic rivets on that center piece to get off, just start drilling slowly and work yourself around to you find them all.

sorry for posting this here, but just trying to find one. If anyone has the faux gas cap piece off a 2011-2012 mustang GT/V6 I would love to buy the middle piece with F O R D from ya if you don't need it anymore.

if you have a 13-14 DO NOT DO THIS AT ALL.

the 13-14 decklid is different. The chrome cap plus the GT part are one unit. The black center cap that surrounds the GT is seperate. If you want a different center logo you literally pry off the black center cap that surrounds the GT part and then you have to grind the GT part down flat. It doesn't have the alignment pins. You'll just damage your decklid doing this.

from a Boss 302 but imagine with a GT instead of tri-bar pony.
