New member and gears question?

Hello everyone I have been following this forum for a while and always wanted a 5.0 and I finally have made my dreams come true this weekend and picked up a 2011 5.0 and I love it. I test drove it and everything was fine but the speedometer just seemed off so I asked the mechanic and he said the owner before me must of had a tune so on my way home me and my wife were going about 70-75 while my speedometer was reading about 90-95 and the rpm was running about 1500-2000 It seems to me he put different gears into it? I just ordered the airraid race CAI with the bama tuner off AM I was just wondering if anyone could think of the gears that could be in it or anything else that could be the cause so I could set up the tune.

Welcome, and if you get a tuner you can input the ratio to fix the problem. But get it fixed soon because the odometer is readin incorrectly also if speedo is off. Im not sure how to tell, someone with more experience with gears may know on here hopefully. Good luck!

Congrats and welcome! Like mentioned before, get the tune on quick to avoid racking up additional miles on the speedo! As for the gears, are you an auto or manual? I have a manual and am over 2k rpms at 70-75 with my 3.73s, cant remember exactly, but def over 2k. Sounds like stock 3.31s to me, but i have no clue if you're an auto.

Welcome, my guess is he had it tuned for 20" wheels and never returned it to stock, but took the wheels off.

Must be auto. Manual definitely isn't that low. I sit at 2250 at 80mph.

It may have been more like 60 or 75 I didn't even think about the different size tires. I will try and get a GPS and find out exactly what speeds at why rpms
