Issue with switch backs

I purchased the switch backs and resistors. I've installed them and they work 50% of the time. The rest of the time, either one will not work at all, neither of them will work, one will be amber, the other white, etc. When installing them, I distinctly remember the resistor getting VERY HOT within 30 seconds to a minute. So hot, I would have burned myself had I held on to it.

It's a big issue since there are a lot of times my turning signals do not work. The rear lights work normally.

I have double and triple checked the wiring, and everything is correct.

On a side note, I retrofitted HIDs from the retrofit source at the same time I installed the switch backs.

Any idea what it could be? Would it be the resistors not working properly? You would think the rear lights wouldn't function properly if the resistors aren't functioning properly.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!
