paint chrome on dashboard around shifter

I was looking at pulling the dash apart to paint all the chrome trim around the vents and rings around speedo and tach and around the shifter Ford Red.

Looking through the roush guage pod install doesn't seem hard to pull the dash apart. Was going to use engine enamel just for durability as plastic paint seems to imprint easy. Any suggestions here?

I saw these which look good in the black, I just wanted to add a little red since the only red on my interior is my bright red shifter and it just seems out of place. A little bit of red over the chrome might do a lot. Can do the push button for the center console too I guess.

I think red around the gauges would look awesome with the red backlight on the gauges. Especially if you have a red shifter, id go for it! It'll look really good.

I am still not sure. I think it might be to bright for the rest of the interior. I haven't decided yet. haha.

Not about to do anything while it is moonshining outside. I just really want the chrome gone. I hate chrome.

I really like the idea of doing something like this too. Maybe not so much, and of course not yellow, but in red. These are just stickers basically, but you could paint it like this. Just an idea for ya!

With a dark red might look good. Not a bright red, would then be way too much.

I agree. I think painting anything outside the colors of the stock interior is capable of being too much. That's what I'm worried about for mine. If nothing else, black on the chrome definitely fits perfectly.

So I tried the red. Was way too much. Visioning it and actually seeing it were two very different things. So went ahead with kind of a matte black finish that blends really well. Gonna see how it holds up first and then if after my surgery still looks good I'll pull the rest and paint it.

the ones I painted, you pull that whole dash section out. Literally grabbing and pulling.

Roush Mustang Vent Gauge Pod (2010-2011) - Installation Instructions at AmericanMuscle.com

I followed that, and it looks like the center vents are bolted in place, so...still not sure about the rest....I guess the airbag cover pulls off? Not sure...and not wanting to try it and have it explode in my face haha. So I am gonna see if I can find any more info on that before I go that far.

You can see the bolt that has to come out. Must be one on the other side.

One day, in the future, someone is going to find our cars in the weeds all rusty and say "WTF were they thinking". But, by then the plastic will have disintegrated so, no worries.

The red looked cool. Yellow, I don't know. Too much for me.

I must be an idiot, tell me how to paint something chrome. You'll make my day. Maybe there is no electrolysis involved. We paint chrome on these days?

That came out of left field. But...I have used a chrome spray paint previously and got good 25ft results.

It's called Kentucky chrome in these parts.

I think he meant he was painting the chrome pieces an actual color. Not putting chrome on the pieces.
