5.0 and my 3.7

I test drove a 2014 5.0 yesterday and really liked it. although I didn't feel a significant difference in acceleration compared to my modded 3.7 I did notice top end was stronger and I fell in love with the V8 sound. the one I drove was priced at $42000 which is way too pricey but one of my friends wants to sell me his for $27000 (2012 5.0). I'm only 20 so money is an issue. what is y'all's gas mileage like and how much insurance are y'all paying a month? do you guys think its worth the price compared to 26 avg mpg in my 3.7? thanks a lot for your help.

another one of these...did ya even search? there are about 1000 mpg threads, more than one sixxer thread asking if they should get a 5.0, and more than a few insurance threads...

What kind of mods do you have on your v6? Hard to believe you cant feel a significant difference in acceleration between the 2. Your talking 305hp vs. 420hp. Pretty big difference. And as far as gas milage goes... Its a v8, if you have to ask, you probably can't afford it. Not trying to be a d*** but its true. Keep your v6 if you're concerned about mpgs.

Agreed with the above, if you're trying to make it fit into your budget it probably isn't for you. Be happy with your sixxer for now then when you can afford it without question jump on it!

My modded six wasn't that much slower than my stock 5.0. A lot of that was the 4.10 gears and tune though. It was slower, but it didn't feel a whole lot slower.

Op, you can find a new 13 base 5.0 for less than 27 probably. And if you care about mpg, don't get the 5,0. I fill up almost twice a week at $55 per fill. My mpg is around 16-17. Also what would you do with the six? Sell it? You will probably lose a lot of money if you trade it in or sell it.

I have full bolton cai 4.10 gears and 93 tune lowering springs struts shocks. I mean I love it. don't get me wrong. I jus test drove it for fun cuz my friend was wanting a camaro n I told him to try out the new 5.0 so for fun I drove it. idk how much rwhp I'm making. if I keep my 3.7 I will supercharge it and put forged internals and put cams on when they come out. I love that 5.0 though and have the option to get it. I'm in a Dilemma right now. lol

look at it this way, a full bolton 5.0 will still take your FI 3.7L in the 1/4 mile...

+1, and still, like i said before if fuel cost is a concern, dont get the 5.0. Alot of people decide they can afford to "buy" a v8, but quickly learn that the maintenance costs like fuel, oil changes, etc., are still way out of their price range.

Like when I looked at buying a Ferrari. Yes dead serious. There was one a few years ago selling used a 1988 something or other Ferrari. Was 30K. Looked gorgeous. The maint cost of 10K a year turned me away quick. I can't afford that. I was all excited until I found out about that. I am sure insurance would have been gross too.

I can agree with that

---------- Post added at 05:29 PM ---------- Previous post was at 05:27 PM ----------

I guess I will keep my 3.7 and enjoy and down the road I'll invest in the 5.0 mainly cuz of the gas and the fact that I'm under 24 and insurance costs would e ridiculous. anyway thanks a lot guys for all your advice and thoughts!

Ahhh still a good choice. That would have sucked as a DD. Not to mention it probably would have been a PITA to resell.

Don't worry man, your time will come. Enjoy what you have now and it is still a bad *** car. Still a stang, even if it is a sixxer

I think there was something wrong with it. I've heard missing maint or having a non certified shop for maint kills there value. So I am sure that is why it was so cheap. Considered worthless. I just thought the whole thing a mess.

I average like 17mpg pretty much all city driving 75%of the time.. I don't care about gas though because my employer supplies me with a truck and gas to do go to work.. Insurance is 180 a month..

I average around 20-22 mpg with mixed city/highway driving daily, with my 2011 GT. If your 3.7 is paid for or nearly paid for, keep it. It's better to save up & get what you want than to be car-poor with a car you can't afford to drive. This is one of the hardest things to do at your age...don't put any more money into your 3.7, since you'll never get it back. My 2 cents...

I live north of Houston Tx in The Woodlands. It is a 30 mile round trip between work and home. Just driving to work and home, I get about 18mpg in traffic and use a tank of fuel a week 93oct about $50 a tank. When O drive responsible on the hwy I get around 26mpg cruising around with no traffic. I have pulled on many V6 stangs so I find it hard to believe you didnt feel a real deference. I run stock motor, trans 3:73 gears. hope this helps

it could jus be me but it was everyone in the 2014 5.0 that didn't feel much of a difference. I want one bad but I'm just gonna have to wait a few more years I guess when I have more money and insurance is not insane for me ( I'm only 20).

Lol I kill 5.0s. Not talking crap of course and I have a 3.7. Full bolt ons and 50 shots of nitrous. The ones I have killed were just intake tune n cat deletes. My friend with a boss 302 intake mani with full exhaust beat me by a car. But for a 3.7 thats not bad for real! I plan on going 100 shots which is all bamma can tune for so ill see what happens after that. And I still get 20mpg :p

U called me out? Umm I dont have a hpipe..... I have headers n xpipe. But if u call that a hpipe then okay then I have that lol. I dont even know u buddy. If u wanna drive down here then sure I dont mind racing anyone its all fun to me. As always the 5.0 guys instead of just reading n thinking about it always gotta get all fussy. A 3.7 is 107hp behind a 5.0 and like I said my buddies who I have raced and beat by like only 1/4 of a car just had intake tune n cat deletes nothing major. So a full bolt on 3.7 and 50 shots to make it a lil more on my side would win. When I raced my friend with the boss many he beat me. I do have 3.73s and he had stock 3.31s so if he had a higher gear he would rape me easily.

I can believe it beat it just like I can believe I've beaten lambos off the line. Get a driver mod for those lambos and I wouldn't touch them.

Don't worry, youll get your smirk knocked off your face sooner or later. In hope by an FI Ricer just so it really annoys you.

Haha joke! Even a decently modified sti @16psi (which is nothing for those cars) wouldn't compare to a equally modified 5.0. You'd have to be cranking out 400+awdhp to maintain the trap speed of a 5.0 and heaven forbid your friend doesn't have the driver mod. I've seen bone stock untuned 5.0s run 12.80-13.00s@110+mph. Show me one single subi sti that does that... Hell show me one with a turbo back and a tune that can do that. Those cars barely trap 100 in the 1/4 stock as is, an that's if you can cut a 1.6 or 1.7 60 foot because everyone and their 3 legged dog knows that little 2.5 ain't going to help you past the 1,000ft mark.

Were not talking about the old ones. The new STIs have you ever even seen one. Lemme get the video if my fried has it to show you what a new sti with uogrades does at the track here. Its slower than most cuz of my area. Most 5.0s do high 13's it sucks to race here. I rather go to houston or phx at the firebird raceway

I would love to see it. I know 2 guys with sti's one is a 2011 and other a 2013. They have the same engine in them, and both of them run each other equally @mid 13s every race. I ran a 13.08@111mph my very first run ever in my 5.0. I got demolished by a 1967 canary yellow nova that ran a 10.01@136mph.
