2014 decklid panel on a 2011 GT

Seeing nosympathy was success installing a 2013 decklid panel on his 2011, I decided to give it a shot... I found it on ebay and it was off of a 2014, and thank god it was in immaculate condition...I was nervous it wouldn't look right with the stock taillights, but luckily the install was very successful

Of course the clips have to get cut off, lucky for me I was able to get it with them cut off already. The picture of the gray one is from a 2013 which has the holes, so I had to use tape to install this one... So hopefully this mini write-up helps out anyone who wants to convert their decklid to a 13-14... Now I just want Raxiom to make a proper set of 13-14 style taillights that fits the 10-12s

Obviously I was never crazy about the boring 10-12 rear so this is the history of my decklid...

Thanks Dave!! It looks alot better in person, I had to get rid of that carbon fiber vinyl, it was throwing off the theme of the car altogether... Now it matches the fender emblems, isn't that what u wanted for your rear? Only with the tribar pony??

Yeah I bet it does! I found a guy on here with some leftover parts from his 2011 V6, I purchased the tribar pony faux gas cap from him and he threw in the side pony emblems as well. Hopefully it shows up this week so I can get it all put together. I don't really have plans for the side pony emblems but at least I'll have extras for my grill.

I think I have to destroy your current emblem to change it, nosympathy showed my pics of the process and it was pretty messy

Yea I remember in past threads that u wanted to do this, it fits like a glove once u do the correct modifications, and they don't stick out past the taillights which was one of my main concerns... I love it!! My car looks correct now, obviously I was never too happy with the rear of the these cars

Other than cutting off the tabs on the rear of the lid did you have to cut or mod any other part?

Not at all besides shaving off the black foam sections where the tabs used to be... Not completely necessary, but I wanted a level plainfield for all the pieces of tape to lay on... I prepped the whole area with rubbing alcohol, and as an added precaution and piece of mind I bought some 3M adhesion promoter and applied plenty to the whole area on both the panel and the actual trunklid.... Before I didn't do that with emblem and that thing was hanging on a thread, it came off with very little effort... This time around, it's part of the car and will not come off

I just did this on my Race Red 5.0 also, except I put a chip in the paint right under the old faux gas cap during the removal process.

Oh well, this is a perm. mod. I love it!

Is that $110 a decent price for one of those? $130 shipped? Seems awfully expensive to me. But I've also never priced the before

It's actually not easy to find these pulled off or in slightly used condition, yes I do agree that this one in particular a bit on the expensive side. I got mine for $97 shipped, its basically the luck of the draw. As soon as I saw the listing for mine, I jumped right on it. And I've been looking for a little while, so basically its a waiting game if your trying to find a good deal

Ok thanks for the heads up. I have a magnetic layover but I don't really like it, I love those deck lid panels on the 13-14's

It can be don't but since u don't have that hump in the center it'll be a bit more difficult to center and align since it has guide pins... As far as staying cleaner, its not gonna be any better... In fact, it'll be worse Since this new panel is a fingerprint/ dust magnet
