Just upgrade to this:

http://www.jpcracing.com/tremec-magn...wheel-options/

The money you would spend building it still wouldn't get you to the quality of this package.

It's not that pricey it does come with a one piece drive shaft which is around $700 or more. $3800 for a new transmission that can handle a lot of power I'm already looking into getting one when this one blows.

Um, it is pricey, lets face reality. The gear ratio choices are less than ideal in the Tremec, unless you're force inducted, too.

Here's an MT-82 rebuilder and strengthener. You'll have to call, it isn't much of a website:

Home - A WebsiteBuilder Website

Rebuilding starts at about 1800, a new MT-82 from Tousley or similar goes for about 2500.

The MT82 is one of the biggest contributors to the success of the manual '11-'14 Mustang GT. They can be problematic from time to time, but it does an amazing job of planting power to the pavement. I just had an extensive repair done to mine through Ford. 2nd gear locked up due to a roller bearing assembly coming apart. But she's just gravy now.
That having been said, I would like to see a rebuild kit for the MT82 roll out just to see how it performs over stock.

From what I heard, the tranny could only take about 450 hp @the crank. If going sc just don't hammer alot and you will be ok.The real weakness is the 2 piece driveshaft

Roush sc packages up to 675 can still be used on stock transmission. There's lots of performance companies running around 700-900 hp on stock drive train no problem. I for one am not impressed with the mt-82 been through 2 of them and only have 47000 km on my car. I've read up on nhsta that ford used an older model of the mt-82 because it was cheaper and then threw in thick transmission fluid to get rid of the loud whine that it originally has. I'm sure if you bought a revised version on the transmission or even updated version of it you would be good. I'm thinking about switching to the tremec sure it's a lot of money but to get a new mt-82 it's at least 5000 for it. Ford showed me the price for one and 3500 for a tremec that has pretty much no flaws in it over a 5000 mt-82 which has more then it's fair shares of flaws it would be worth it

Aren't transmissions rated for torque?

Some are, some aren't. There is no industry standard on this. It's not germaine to the issue here anyway, as this box is fine for main strength. It's issues, in my view come from QC on parts outsourced.

the hp rating has little to do with how much a tranny will actually take. If your gonna be running 600+ hp especially at the track get your mt-82 beefed up or buy a tremec xl..the stock tranny wont last very long under that kind of torque. It simply was never engineered to. Its why the gt-500 would never come with mt-82 tranny because ford knows it wont last very long with the gt-500's power level! Don't tell me about the boss because it makes less torque then the reg. gt!

677/555 since January, holding up just fine all year. 633/505 last year, never a problem. Take it to the strip often on mt 295/55 15s.....smooth as butta

Yeah thats good but then you have the guys that break 3 in a row with less hp then yours, the mt-82 is to inconsistent in its reliability!

If you look at Tremec's history in OEM applications, it isn't without issues, either.

The GT500 guys have been *****ing about the TR6060 for years and that ain't the first problem Tremec has encountered in OEM.

Yeah but I'm not comparing oem to oem I'm comparing my stock trans to a new aftermarket trans, and for me the tremec magnum xl will stand the the test of time under high torque applications much better
then the mt-82!!
