I have searches the forums and found a lot of good info on electric cutouts but one thing I can't find is if these cutout ever end up leaking overtime? I already slapped a new set of Borla ATAK mufflers on my 12 GT but would like some more volume but not remove my cats. Best thing I came up with in researching is the cutouts. But I can't find anything where anyone has had then in for awhile and devolved leaks. Any of you guys that run cutouts run into this issue or any other issues with long term use?
I don't run them personally but from a previous forum I used to frequent, a lot of guys had issues with the electric cutouts. I believe you have to remove and clean them regularly to keep them functioning properly. Most of the other guys would install manual cutouts to save the hassle of cleaning. More trouble to open/close but no worries about breaking over time.
If your worried about the cutouts them selves breaking, DMH performance sells their cutouts with like a 5 year warranty. The guy there is super cool, if it broke after her would probably replace anyways
I've ran manual cutouts (the basic one with a cap) several times on other vehicles. Switched to a QTP electric once and got about 2 months out of it before it died. Said screw it, and never went that route again. DMH seems to be reliable from what I've heard.
My dad had electric cut outs on his 67 chevelle and after 6 months and opening them maybe 25 times they wouldn't seal the whole way anymore and had a really annoying sound after that when they were shut. He took them off and put manuals on. If u wanna try them I can get u a good deal on a used set
Mainly because I have already dropped $850 on the mufflers. I found a very good solution though I had my resonators removed and that did Fe trick not too loud not to loo quiet, just right hahahaha
Why not just cut the muffler off and dump it? Your wanting it louder right?
