Mustang 96, how do you like the K&N CAI? Thinking of getting one because I haven't seen where there is a tune needed for it.

I really love it you could feel more power gain when stepping on the gas, exhaust sounds louder, better mpg stock I was 154 miles till E now with the K&N I get 256 miles till E but I don't have a tune. I think they don't rechair tunes the K&N adds up 20.27HP.

tc x 4, I don't understand why you have to be so negative. Mustang 96 feels it gives him extra HP and I have to believe him. I have done a lot of research and the K&N doesn't perform like the high dollar CAI's but it doesn't require a tune either. I am looking for some improvement without a required tune that will void my waranty and this looks like it will do what I want. He just confirmed the research that I have been doing. Each of us have different wants and needs and we need to be supportive of each other.

Hold on, if being supportive means being honest and having evidence to back up claims, I'm all for it. If being supportive means propagating internet mythology then keep it.

There's no way on this planet, a no-tune CAI adds 20 hp, much less the 20.27 hp claimed. There is ample evidence to support the cost-benefit of a CAI isn't great on these cars. Basically anything worth a damn on this platform requires a re-tune to take advantage of it. There's no sandbag 50 horses in no-tune, tack-on stuff; that ship sailed many years ago.

Just because a company claims something, doesn't make it so.

True story. Ever wonder why you've never seen a dyno sheet from anyone other than K&N backing these claims? Right, because they're bull****.

Let me take this a step further, K&N sucks. Bigtime. Their drop-in filter actually causes a loss in HP and TQ. If they can mess up a drop-in filter, I'm not trusting them to replace the entire intake tract.

Same day, same car, same dyno.

Actually, I think "confirmation bias" would be much more appropriate. Placebo is when you don't change anything and people experience phantom results. Confirmation bias is when people ignore facts to justify their own purchase/experience when the reality is otherwise (paraphrased of course - but I encourage you to Google both terms).

Because he's right, and there is definitive research to say so. There is no sense in supporting someone who is spewing incorrect data all over the internet. Even the "high dollar" CAIs are shown to have little-to-no measurable gains on the 10+ an especially 11-14 cars. This has been beaten to death FOR YEARS now.

Those free-flowing filters may flow more, but at the expense of allowing more junk to bypass them. I'll stick to paper filters. Plus oiling down the MAF is good for more problems. If ya want more air in, force it in. Don't be mislead by claimed dyno numbers. It's their job to sell them, just like a politician. They tell you what you want to hear, you buy it, then are F'd like the others that bought into it. Buy one of those "Tornado" air intake things while you're at it

All true, look at the "specs" on the box of a K&N filter. They even call out it was in a "dust free" environment.

Most people simply dont understand that what a company claims, is normally far from the truth.

And the way they get away with is is, incase you've never noticed, they say "up to"!! Which in reality 0HP still falls into that statement!
