On what premise do you base your expert conclusion on oil windage?

Share a personal experience of mine. Had an old Acura Legend 2door that sprung an oil leak. It was an old daily driver and had no intention of fixing it since it still ran perfectly other than smoke beginning huff out of the engine bay. The leak was coming from the camshaft seal and dripping right onto the exhaust manifold.

My neighbor, retired mechanic, suggested I pour 1QT Lucas Oil Stabilizer and increase the weight to 10w-50w. He warned though, it will slow down the car with double thick oil running through the engine.

Changed the oil, low and behold the car stopped smoking but it felt like the car lost a good 60 hp or so. Immediately made the car slower. Acura Legend Type II V6 I believe has something like 230-250Hp. Now felt like 180.

So that in mind, given two 5.0 engines, one running 0w-20, the other 5w-50, if they had the exact same conditions (same tune) etc, the one with 5w-50 would be considerably slower. Yet, we know the track pack engine is putting out noticeably more HP to the crank based on that dynosheet and multiple driver personal experiences. So it's safe to say the TP at a minumum, has a diff tune.

The 5w50 oil is used to protect the engine at higher operating temperatures for long periods of times. I.e. Track Racing, this is also the reason for the Boss 302 oil cooler on the TP cars. As for the regular GTs the thinner oil is used to keep MPGs up in city driving and traffic situations, this is a "easy" boost for OEMs to maintain a higher MPG/vehicle class or fleet.

Also, as for the original question of different tunes, as per DiabloSport, there was no noticeable difference between a 2012 base GT and my 13 Track Pack. The adjusted timing and Air/fuel tuning accounted for the extra 8 HP in the 13-14 GT's

Hmmm This would make sense explaining the power difference between the regular 5.0 and track pack on the dyno

I guess it's all about the dyno, every one if them reads differently... Beat way to do it is basically sticking with with same exact dyno from a baseline so that u can use it as a measuring point so when u do mods in the future u have a more exact way of seeing how mods affect your gains... I'm only on a Bama 93 Hybrid tune and I got a freakishly high 417 rwhp which I myself can't believe, so I'm just sticking with that particular dyno so I can actually see what my gains are

I ran into a local guy with a 2011 Track Pack car. He had a Boss Intake, Steeda CAI, and a dyno tune. I had just picked up my 2014 Premium GT, completely stock. (3.31's). We had a little fun and I was a nose ahead of him. It could be his driving, but this guy also had a fox body with a built 347 and a lot of gas... So I don't think it was his driving. Just food for thought.

Why not just run 5 to 5 1/2 qts of oil in the 8qt TP cars pan. Install a 3qt accusump very easy to do and great insurance for drag racing and autocross. Facts are keep the oil off the crank and it will make more power.

The pans on these cars are by know way a racing pan and running 8qts of oil is a joke. Windage is the key to any bottom end period. I recently gained 31hp on a 511bbc by a pan change alone went from a Stefs 6qt to a custom Milodon 8qt with kickout. I ended up being able to run as little as 5.3qts of oil with the accusump. Point is it's free HP just gotta know how to get it.

11-12 TP and 13-14 TP are not the same thing

keep in mind the 9/73 takes a few more horses to turn so dyno shows less hp but you are faster down the 1/4 mile.

That was the little boss. I wasn't around before the 1980's and I'm no Boss expert but the Boss 302 was where Mustangs started to be quick back in the day. They need to bring back the big Boss 429!

Maybe one of these old timers out here can school us....

That would be cool. A stripped down track model like the LS version of the latest Boss, since there won't be a Shelby next time around. Oooh with some fat nasty Mickey Thompsons on the back.....yeahhhhh

The Boss 429 was one of the most unstreetable cars Ford ever built. It was a totally different story on the track tho.
