Is tranny whine in a 2011 5.0 bad?

My brother got a new 2011 5.0 with 20,000 miles on it and the tranny has a minor whine. Also 2nd gear is the loudest of any other. It's only audible with the windows down and music off. Is it bad/ normal?

Sounds like the typical MT82 noises to me.

The MT82 is known to whine. Hard to say for sure though without hearing it. If its just a slight whine i wouldn't worry about it. Try changing the fluid first to something better, like royal purple. That helped mine alot. Quiet as a church mouse now.

I wouldn't worry about it if the trans is shifting as it should. If it gets louder or the trans starts having problems shifting, I would be taking it to the dealer.
