GT500 Axle Backs Confusion

I am confused.. It seems there are different styles GT500 mufflers? Can someone tell me which mufflers I have bought? They are SVT GT500 mufflers but which ones? And why does one end in A the other in AJ ? I am wondering if they are a matched set?

Left reads BR3V-5232-AJ
Right reads BR3V-5230-A

It's possible one muffler is right side and other left? Because that's the only difference between them. I'm only guessing.

Dealer Response

I checked with the dealer today. He said both are standard OEM on a 2012 GT500 and both should end in AJ. Upon closer inspection they both do end in AJRetail is around $329 each.

Now this question is will they sound good on a GT?

dealer cost is 329 each but you can get them just about anywhere for under 300 for the set.

I put a set on this weekend and they sound great. Deeper rumble and a little bit louder. The 4" tips look a lot better than the chrome stock tips too in my opinion

Have you heard a boss? I could be wrong but I highly doubt it's a v6 muffler and the quads are a small diameter pipe mainly for sound to escape they don't flow much exhaust gases

I put the 13 Shelby Axleback on my 14 and deleted the resonators and it sounds so mean. Not too loud but growls

A friend of mine had several pair of restrictor plates (with different sized holes), until he modded to electric cut-outs. He's sometimes lazy and spends money foolishly. But it is fun to vary the exhaust sound in traffic.

There are 2 "GT500" axle back exhausts.

1. "GT500 style" is the FRPP for upgrading your Mustang GT to a more aggressive sound. My butt dyno felt a little difference. It has a single pipe on each side.

2. The other is a quad exhaust from the OEM GT500. You will need to cut your lower bumper for it to fit. There are scored lines where you cut. And you should buy the GT500 lower valance for it to look right.

There seems to be two different kinds of GT500 Mufflers.

I bought my GT500 twin tip kit from AutoNation in White Bear Lake for $625 shipped to my door with rear valance and hardware.
I'd have to go back and get a part number..................I love the sound and my exhaust is stock. It has actually gotten deeper with driving. I put them on almost 4000 miles ago.
Yes, you have to pull the rear bumper off and cut along the mold line on the inside of the bumper..........there is no perforation on the inside, but the instructions both online and with the kit are very good. It was kind of interesting pulling the rear bumper off of a 4000 mile car and cutting it................but I got through it and it looks really killer. The mufflers are not the easiest to put on unless you have a lift, but I suppose it could be done on jack stands.

The ones on the left are still Ford mufflers with larger SS tips........like Borla, Magnaflow.............. the ones on the right come standard on the 13 and 14 GT500 and are the ones I have on my car.

They are not really scored, there is a "mold" line for you to follow. When they mold rear bumpers then actually mold a specific bumper for the 13/14 GT 500 and when they mold bumpers for the regular GT they just add a piece to the mold....hence the mold line.

GT500 Axle Backs Confusion

Olerodder is spot on. I bought them from there as well after seeing his post about them. Well at least I believe it was him. Total cost was 625. Looks like I might owe him 200 since the price has gone up. Lol.

The bumper is a separate piece that comes in the kit. You have to cut your original bumper and the rear valence snaps into the stock bumper.

The rear valance is the OE GT500 piece. It comes with the OE twin tip mufflers.
It comes that finish..............basically the same material as the front spoilers.

If you want to go a different route.

You can get the valance and weld on quad tips to the muffler of your choice.

all in all with cutting and welding I paid less than $600

And my tips are dipped black
