I'm probably running a little rich. I'll do some data logging when I'm home for thanksgiving break

I'm getting about 12.5 avg and every trip that I calculate about 11. I drive an auto and about 90-95% city. I hit the high way every two weeks for about 20 miles. I live in Miami so the traffic is pretty bad. This is my DD. I know these car eat gas and that doesn't bother me. I'm just worried something is messed up. I step on it a few times a day. Should I get my tranny/CPU checked out. Or is the mileage I'm getting normal? Any input helps thanks guys!

My tank lasts me anywhere between 200 and 235 miles. That's in a 1998 GT v8 mustang. I don't drive that much so it can last me two weeks. And I run premium fuel which costs me about $3.86 per gallon right now but I've paid $4.45 for premium consistently in the past here in Chicago.

Cliffs:

1998 GT v8 mustang 5spd MANUAL.
14.2 mpg in the city
Very little highway driving and that bumps it up to about 15 mpg

I coast a lot so if I see a red light I just throw it into neutral and hit the breaks to slow down. I feel like this explains the high gas mileage. Otherwise 14mpg is as good as it gets.

I get around 20 mpg combined but it really depends on your altitude, gas, air quality, oil, etc

lol well thats just driving habits its kind of hard to ignore the fact that you can punch it and your car will send you forward. its only when you get into a crappy 160hp car that you try what is known as accelerating and the car takes a little bit to decide "fine ill go faster" *cough* 98 civic *cough*

Im sure if i want to keep my MPG at 14 i have to continue shifting at 2k

if i want 9mpg ill just stay in first until i get to 5.5k rpms

but what i am asking is will it improve how my car runs? even if my mpg takes a hit?
or is there a way to tune it to better mpg while loosing 10% HP etc?

Technically, anything that improves performance makes your car more efficient. Therefore, you SHOULD get better fuel economy.

ah i see. i thought it was a trade off. maybe i should ask my mechanic. how much did it cost you for yours? i could really do for better mileage than 14 with under 2k shifting!

yup it improves everything including mpg no doubt. I'm just saying that my care for MPG flew out the window when I realized how fast my car can go now lol

agreed. sometimes I just like seeing how fast i can get to 45, drop back down to 20, and repeat. now that i mention it sounds like a waste of money. I am on a limited budget so it seems pretty stupid to me. believe it or not i test drove a 2014 honda accord. i was smacked in the face with technology.

and it gets MORE than double the mileage in both city and highway

idk I'm in California and we don't get 93 here. Idk why though it sucks :-/ if we did my tune might get a little more hp out of my car.

And WTF they charge you a 45¢ tax PER GALLON? Is that on top of the regular price? That's blasphemy. You guys need to revolt

well i have my shovel, alas not a pitchfork but it will have to do.
no its already included in the price hence why chicago has the highest average gas price in the nation. a month ago i was paying 4.44 for premium and i counted that a good day. granted it is 93 though.

right now im rejoicing at find an occasional 3.84 for 93.

ive seen a citgo at the same time charging 4.29 for 93 octane. location i guess but its not even near a highway who knows?
