I used a 12" inertube. I put a lil soap on inside and it actually slid right on perfectly.

I just installed my barton; shifts great. I ripped through all the gears easy. Before with the original shifter I had trouble getting into gears sometimes. I haven't driven enough yet to notice noise and I can't hear all that well but I will say that I am very pleased with it. Worth the money; make sure you get a bracket as well.

The rubber insulator idea is a dang good idea for a car that has to much tranny noise. The inner tube strip would be just enough to break up the transfer of some of the vibration.

With the bracket It still seems to have a little more noise in neutral but in gear almost nothing .... I think it was a 12" kids bicycle tire I used. It slipped right on over the end with a little soap. How is the 2-3 shift with the Barton? Even with the bracket I still get a little bit of 3rd gear lock out so definitely need the whole shifter
