I did 12x52, then did the additional 250 per 6 month insurance term (which is a high estimate I'm sure, but rather overshoot than under)

Not trying to sway you one way or another. I'm just a numbers guy. So here we go.

National average $/gallon is $3.28
I figured 5 days a week and 52 weeks a year.
Distance you travel as 130mi - 260 round trip.

A car that gets 35mpg will cost $6,354.40 in gas per year.

A car that gets 25mpg will cost $8,896.16 per year

If all my math is correct... A difference of $2,541.76 per year.

If you want me to run other numbers let me know.

Or you could divide each by 2...

So I guess what I'm asking is for a little advice on what Year to go with, as well as any performance or gas mileage modifications I can make to fit the situation.

I'm certain that as much as I want the V8, for the mileage alone I'm going to have to go with the V6 model for whichever year I choose. I'm leaning toward a 2011 V6 or V6 Premium. And from what I've read, adding a Cold Air Intake would both be a performance and MPG boost, so I probably will add one of those to it.

Thoughts?
I traded my V6 in on a GT I drive 25 mile one way to work. 8 miles highway, 3 miles city and the rest back roads. There are about a total of 23 signal light on my travel to work. In my V6 I was spending about $45 a week in gas. My GT is about $8 more a week plus my insurance went up $200 a year and my payment went up $75 a month. So it cost me about an extra $25 a week to own a GT.

This is my cost. someone else will be more or less depending on that person's age. Insurance has a lot to do with cost and if you don't have money down or get much for trade in could effect the cost a lot.

Call your insurance agent get a quote. Go on line and do the payment calculator and see how much payments will be and you can be sure the gas cost between the V6 and GT will not be to dramatic. Doing this will get you a close figure for the additional cost to own a GT.

My recommendation is to buy something dependable, economical and inexpensive for a DD pay it off fast as you can then buy the Mustang you want...and the 2015 is right around the corner. I would wait to see what they have to offer. Romuer has it there will be a 350hp ecoboost for 2015

It's probably gonna be closer to 310HP, that's what I've heard being thrown around the most. I'll be happily surprised at a 350hp 4 cylinder

Don't get cold air induction for mileage- it hurts it. All of my MPG/speed went down for it, it hurts mileage.

A LOT you can do for mileage, tune often helps, depending on your commute there are different options (city vs highway), aero always helps, suspension helps 9/10 times.

I used mine as a DD for about a year, but 26k in a year was too much. So I bought a Honda Insight, and with some modifications I am averaging 67.2 to and from work. Only 5 miles one way, totals 20 miles per day. This is in 24 degree weather, in Ohio. I got it in September, so I don't know what it's really capable of, my best tank so far is 81 mpg over 741 miles. The Mustangs best was 46 over 440 miles averaging 63 mph.

If you want to get decent mileage (and help acceleration & top speed), you can, it just takes some work.

What is do the sixers get for gas mileage vs the GT's? Is it a significant difference?

V6 is rated at 19/31 for automatic, V8 is 18/25 auto. Manual is 19/29 for V6, V8 is 17/26. Not a big difference.

I usually get a 21/26 city/highway mileage average.

That's impressive. I spent a couple days driving like an old woman and the best I could do was 18.5.

I find I ran my V6 harder more often than the GT. With 420hp you don't need much gas to get her going.

Yeah, that's what meant by driving like old woman. I was shifting at 2000 and limited my interstate speed to 70. What did you do to get 21 mpg?

Well OP I think you should do the V8. The gas mileage is not much different and if your going to buy a stang and not stick with ur DD you have now that's the way to go. I have a MT (GT) and average 21-22mpg. And I don't baby it by any means! My jeep for the winter sucks *** on gas and I wish I could drive the stang! Although I wouldn't want to put that many miles on a new car. I would look for something used because all those miles you put on it is gonna sink the resale value!

I just traded my V6 in for the GT. GT is a totally different car, and lots of fun...but you have to pay for it. You can get a brand new 2014 V6 for about $18k right now, and it's still a fun, fast car!

Yes, but is the GT worth the extra money you spend per month?

I average about 21 in my '13 GT. That's almost spot on with the "Combined MPG" shown by the EPA (Gas Mileage of 2013 Ford Mustang). The "Combined MPG" on the V6 according to the same site is only 23. That means the real-world difference in MPG (for my particular driving style) would be negligible.

It will cost a bit more to ensure it, and (quite a bit more) to purchase it up front.

My best advice though, is to get what you can comfortably afford.

It's worth the extra money if you have it. If it's a stretch, you can still have fun with the V6. Also keep in mind gas and insurance premiums both went up with the GT.
