Dealer put 5w 50 instead of 5w 20

Took my car in for an oil change today, I then realized they put 5w 50 in, I questioned the tech who said " bro you have a boss 302 motor thats what they take" I do not have a track pack mustang so the manual/ oil cap states 5w 20, my question is given that i drive the piss out of my car and have a 7600 RPM redline should I be using the 5w 20 or 5w 50? I left with the 5 50 in because I would have been late for work.

Well for starters the Track Pack cars don't have Boss motors rather plain old GT motors. it won't hurt anything but I wouldn't use it. I would take it back at your convenience and have it replaced with 5w-20. This is why you shouldn't trust anyone but yourself to do any oil changes.

It takes only 20 mins to change your own oil plus it's cheaper. Wells idk about cheaper it cost me about around $100 but I use royal purple oil and filter.

The exact opposite happened to me... I have the track pack and they put 5w20 In my car even though I told them it's took 5w50...you would think the dealer is the best spot for the stang , think again....

It really depends where you live

Down here in Miami
5 W 50 is mandatory where ambient temp can get
over 95 degrees and you want a THICK oil to absorb all that heat

If your up north a 5 w 20 gets to the bearings easier when the engine is cold and literally stays cold

Bottom line
The Hotter the Engine
The Thicker the Oil

Auto parts stores in the 60's and 70's use to sell Valvoline NITRO 70 weight oil
for racers down here. Thats was for some serious HEAT !!!

Happened to me on my first oil change the dealer did! First time I've not changed my oil and they put 6 qts of 5w-20 when mine takes 8.5 QTS of 5w-50!!!! Luckily I asked the tech what he put in it :/ after he drove it :/

That's it, your car is ruined. It is useless now, send it along my way and continue to pay for it, warranty and insurance doesn't cover negligence.

The only thing good I see about having a dealer do your oil is you have a paper trail in case you decide to sell or have problems with the car under warranty. I can't stand not being able to watch them real close though. I like doing my own though
