Installed 2013 GT500 mufflers on my 2011

I hadn't seen this done before...most people will say that you need to swap to the 2013+ rear bumper and valance combo, but after taking a close look, I decided that it could be done to a stock 2010-2012 GT rear bumper valance, with careful trimming...

Here's my result

Yeah, don't flame me on the GT500 rear badge, I'm putting my stock GT emblem on the GT500 rear panel, they're just a PITA to remove...

Other than the obvious trimming of the rear valance, the metal bumper underneath required some clearancing to ensure there'd be no rattle.

I was running the older GT500 mufflers, and have to say that these are a little more quiet overall, but still have a great tone, with zero drone. I got the 2013's for free from a buddy, so it all worked out.

So the later dual tip GT500 mufflers are quieter than the earlier single tip GT500's? Interesting.

Yes, I contribute it mostly to the two smaller diameter exhaust tips rather than the single larger 4" on the older GT500's. It definitely mellowed it down a bit...which I actually needed, as they're really strict on noise here.

I have a set of the 2011 GT500's on my 2011. I like them. Certainly not loud at any speed. Nice rumble at idle, and absolutely no drone at any speed.

I do like the look of the two tips at each side though. Sharp!

I've got ARH longtubes and X-pipe, so GT500's are a bit louder on my car than a car with OEM pipes, however I did love the older GT500's, except for startup early in the morning...my neighbors didn't appreciate them as much, lol!

Looks good. I guess an off road Xpipe is out of the question there.

Yep. In some places, they'll impound your car and not give it back...Nah, I'll suffer the indignity of high flow cats...

I am wanting to do this to my 2011 as well. Can you give me more detail on exactly how much you had to cut? Also can I just cut plastic? It looks like you cut metal.

I had to trim about 1 1/2" inward and follow the angle to make it appear symmetrical. The metal trimming was done to the brace underneath so there'd be no rattling from exhaust tip movement. It's tight otherwise...

I've since done the full 2013 Shelby rear conversion, pics will follow once I get it back from the paint shop.

So it is relatively easy to trim based on that. Was the metal trimming required? Also I have the California special and I think the holes on the bumper are a little larger.

What did you use to cut it with?

Looks great! I have the single tip style from a 2012 GT500 along with the mid pipes which do not have resonators in them. They do have some volume in the morning. I hope my neighbors are heavy sleepers!

When cutting did you only have to cut towards the middle of the bumper or have to cut it on both sides? I will be doing the cutting tomorrow. Trying to decide to whether to install and then cut or measure cut and hope it's even.

In my case only towards the middle. Remember to loosen the mid pipe and axle back portion to properly adjust the new muffler for depth as well as side to side and up/down fitment of the tips to your bumper.

That new bumper and lights look really good but that's a little more than I want to spend. Lol.

Loosening the mid pipe at allows you to change what exactly? My mid pipe and ota pipes are already touching under the clamp. I can't adjust it in any further.

You may have to adjust the muffler for depth, which can only be done at the mid pipe.

As I sit here at work I am wondering if I really want to cut the plastic on my bumper. I am kinda a chicken. Lol.
How much different does it sound? Was it worth it to you? Once I cut it I can't go back.

I liked the different sound & appearance. Stock valances are easy to acquire, as more people are switching to aftermarket. Yes, anytime you DIY you run the risk of screwing up, but you also get to have that pride in doing something yourself that is unique.
