5w40

A 5w40 a terrible alternative to 5w50? In other words, can it do harm to 5.0 (track pack)?

Slightly thicker at heat. If you aren't tracking the car and just driving. Won't hurt it.

Yeah, just daily driving with an occasional spirited session.

Isn't a 40w a little thinner at heat?

Now your dealer will blame that and surely deny warranty if something goes wrong (like windshield wiper failure).... Because that's what they do.

We've even heard dealers put 5w-50 in non-track pack and vice versa.

You shouldn't have to worry man. A dealer can't void you warranty to that. Do research and you will find that the MC oil ford uses breaks down to less then a 40w after like 1000 miles. So don't worry. Most people are using a 40w anyways

my dealer just put 5w 50 in my non track pack car, I made them swap it out, its important to note that motorcrafts 5w 50 shears down to a light 40 weight over time, a good alternative would be a true synthetic 10w 40

Honestly, not going to be an issue.

You have the receipt showing they put it in.

For you driving it won't matter.
