Consider what you want the car to act like though, if you're interested in more than looks.
Extra wide tires tend to diminish the transitional agility of the car and tramline or bumpsteer a lot more, with the tradeoff of some measure of increased grip laterally and straight line on smoother surfaces. This is particularly true of Macstrut cars like this one and/or of situations where one is trying to fit oversized tires on too small wheels.
If this is ok with you, risk wise, yeah, a 285 will go on the rim but, make sure you are keeping the height the same or your speedo will be off
