Pony Projector Problems

On both sides of the outside mirrors, looks like water has gotten in it, when the projection comes on, there are a lot of water spots. Has anyone else had this problem.

I have the same problem with mine. Mine is so bad you can barely make out the pony anymore. Took it to the dealership and they said they cleaned it out but that night when I looked at em they looked the same😞

Had the clip holding the lamp in break, took it to the dealership. Fixed it right up. I think it was the automatic car wash that did it. So no more of those.

After doing some research on this, it appears to happen again, after they are replaced. Maybe ford will produce a better design that holds up.

Mine were the same exact way. I took it to the dealer and they replaced the one on the right. The one on the left they could not because it was cracked as if someone had tried to take it out. That one costs around $100 from the dealer I think? The right one is around $25 lol just my luck. I wonder if the right one can fit on the left side just by turning it.

I've not had one problem with mine. But no auto car washes and it stays garaged unless nice weather usually. I'll make sure I keep an eye on that tho.

No problems with mine. Always hand washed and never thru automatic car wash. Stays in driveway unless nice weather pops up and always has the factory cover over it. Good luck with your fix! Please post your resolution to this issue.

Mine stays in the garage, and only gets hand washed, but I still have the problem, haven't gone to get it fixed yet.

Warranty covered mine. Plan to avoid flushing the new ones when washing.

First time the clip broke and was hanging out. Dealer replaced. 2nd time it was distorted too dealer replaced it. Now the clip broke again. They are on backorder til April 24th. All under warranty at less than 10,000 miles. Maybe they are making a stronger clip.

Are the pony projectors on all '14s or just certain packages?

I bought my car in July and the pony on each side was clear and sharp, but when the rain and cold weather came the outline developed a blurred edge and more shards of light surrounded them. I figured it was condensation and trapped dirt, but I'm waiting until I go to Ford for my seasonal tire swap to see about it. In the meantime, I have Clydesdales projected to either side of my pony car.

I have had 2 5.0's now and have had no issues with hand washing *knock on wood* , but if there are so many people with issues, it would be nice if there was a recall on them.

I think recalls are only safety related, unfortunately.

Has anyone taken the assembly apart to see how it works? Is there some way to seal them prior to?

There is a small film that the pony image is printed on many people have problems with it losing its sharpness. It's under warranty get it replaced. The pony projectors only come on the cold weather package the heated seats and dual climate control I have premium but I think the cold weather package can be gotten on the basic as well. Has nothing to do with dirt on lens so you have a bad pony get her fixed whole under warranty

Comes with the comfort package. Mine had to be replaced 3 times already. I live in Florida it constantly rains here so they always go bad and need replacement.

I'd continue (albeit a pain for you) to take it in and get it fixed, even if it requires replacement. This way you have warranty paperwork. Then if/when it fails out of warranty, you can claim a lemon law. Even though it's a minor feature, its your right to make it all good.

If it was a factory option, and you paid for it, you're intitled to have it working. The fact that the dealer continues to repair it indicates they acknowledge it as being a faulty design or part, so you have proof that can be presented if/when the warranty expires and it continues to fail.

My wife owns a BMW that has had its tail light assemblies come loose. We have taken it in three different times, and on all three ocasions, they have replaced these assemblies. I mentioned to the service advisor on the third trip that this was fast becoming annoying to me; he noted it in the repair write up. I was contacted by BMW regional a few weeks later and they acknowledged our "disapproval", and stated that if the item failed again, they would take the vehicle back, and exchange it for a newer model.

I've been checking this third set of taillights daily.....
