How to install a 2013 Mustang Track Apps Instrument Cluster in a 2013 Base model GT

I will be the pseudo guinea pig for this experiment.

It has already been done and well documented how to install a 2013 premium cluster with track apps into a 2012 model GT. It was pretty complicated as the communication between the 2012 PCM & Cluster needed a "black box" or converter so it could read the data.

For the 2012 swap, a new ABS module is also needed for the Track Apps to be accessed.

Watching everything unfold over the months of research and testing they did on the original swap thread, it became pretty apparent that a '13 to '13 swap would be a lot less involved (in theory).

So this is where I come in. Thanks to those three guys that have more electrical/tech knowledge than I can believe, and shared it all online, I am relatively confident I can pull this off.

I have talked to a couple of the guys that did this with their '12 I have a '13 Track Apps Premium Cluster in hand. (Thanks to TCopp on this site for picking the cluster up as it was a local craigslist sale in his area!)

I bought the 4-pad switch for the left-hand side of the steering wheel and it will be here by the end of the week. I will post step-by-step pics of everything as I go so anyone should be able to do this without a lot of technical experience.

Here is my premium cluster w/Track Apps - Thanks TCopp!

2013 track apps cluster

Part Number DR3T 9E740 BBW you will need. Found this one on eBay shipped for $30.00

Besides the cluster & the CC switch, you will need your dealer to do the following:

1) PATS RELEARN - this is your passive auto theft system, you can start your car with your cluster, and plug in this cluster to test and check it out, but if you try to start your car prior to the PATS RELEARN, your car will not start with the swapped cluster.

2) Load ASBUILT data into the new cluster. This will allow your PCM to communicate with the cluster.

3)Odometer reset - Dealer or some aftermarket shops can sync your odometers

Researching, it looks like the 2013 ABS module that feeds data for the Track Apps is the same for 2013 mustangs. Having the correct ABS module and not having to purchase a "black box" saves you $400 over swapping this into a '12! :good:

The clusters are hard to find. They show up on carparts.com and eBay but go quickly. One on eBay went for $160 and that is ridiculously cheap, but it was a km/h cluster. The only thing I hate is the font and layout of the gauge. I have a boss gauge without the LCD, and am thinking of trying some way to also do a face swap. We will see.

First things First :p

Anyone near VA/MD/DC with a VCM

Have had a cluster for over a year, haven't had time to fully understand what I need to do. First I need to send my cluster for mileage change, but could anyone assist with a VCM near NOVA in the near future?

The last time I tried getting my VCM II V86 to work, I had no luck and it just pissed me off. I even bought a used Windows XP laptop and did the extend program. To much BS and aggravation to deal with so I probably won't do this mod. Plus finding a cluster is not easy.

Yeah and, for what track apps is worth, meh.

It did help me though, out of race season. When I got my 14 I took it to a local Mexican backroad and ran an 1/8th mile several times, to get an idea what the juicebox was all about and get a good baseline average on speed #s.

Then I tuned the car and did the same thing. The actual mph # may or may not be accurate but the difference between them might be, like on a dyno.

The car picked up 3-4 mph at the 1/8th, which is massively better.

So, I guess it was worth the nothing I paid for the TA.....:)

I have a 2014 Mustang Gt base model with sync. Do i need a specific cluster to work? Or is there a model number i need? And how would i go directly to ford to buy one so i can avoid hunting for one. Thanks. I been reading but every time i come across one on ebay its the regular one. And don't want to buy the wrong one.

Bama Tunes

I've already installed a 2014 Premium Cluster in my 2013 GT. The dealer did the PATS relearn for me but since I didn't provide them with ASBuilt data, they wouldn't add track apps. I've since installed a custom Bama tune and will be returning to the dealer with the correct ASBuilt data, will updating the cluster data mess with my tune? More specifically does it mess with the strategy that my tuner is locked for?

It won't effect your tune.

Ok - I just left the dealer after they installed the gauges and programmed it- it's a partial success- no track apps or my color and the gauge mode just has the running horse- did they not program something correct? This is the 720 lines I used:

This is what happened with me, the dealer just programmed the keys. I had no track apps or my color until I provided the proper 2 asbuilt codes, once that was done the track apps and my color were fully functional.

"I will clarify, a dealer would probably do the PATS RELEARN/RESET for you which would make your cluster work, however, it would not have the goodies like Track Apps & the multiple digital gauges. Before we changed the ASBUILT on our ABS module, the cluster worked, just no track apps. It just shows everything in the menu except Track Apps and when you switch to "gauges" it only shows a mustang logo and miles to empty." Quoted by deerslayer....

Found it finally- will programming the ABS module also make my color work? They obviously didn't program it.
