Koni Orange Shock Noise

I installed the Koni orange shocks and struts last week. I'm getting a popping noise in the rear when going over small bumps or rough road (not speed bumps). I checked the sway bar and all other suspension components and everything is tight.

The noise sounds like a plastic popping noise so I checked the black plastic shock covers and the left one much looser than the right with suspension loaded. The problem is that I have tightened the top shock nuts and tight as I can.

These shocks reuse the factory shock bushings and nut.

Any ideas?

Maybe its a bad shock (according to a few friends) and AM can send me another but I want to cover all bases before I call them.

Could be the soft oem shock bushings. Is your rear sway bar stock? The stock sway bar bushings are notorious for having a pop/clunk sound over bumps and rough road, especially if you're lowered. So that could be it too.

I had issues with koni struts. The strut shaft was squeaking and the info I got was that the tolerance on some of the struts are really tight could cause squeaking. I had to silicone spray them every other day to stop the squeak. I was not very impressed with the koni orange. I ended getting some steeda shocks and struts and I haven't had any issues.

Did you check the panhard bar? On mine it seemed tight but after I took it off and tightened the adjustment nut on the passenger side the sound went away. I'd check the torque on everything; shock bolts, panhard bar bolts, panhard adjustment nuts, and sway bar bolts. I've got the Koni oranges as well and those weren't my issue.

I agree, check the nut on the panhard bar.

Don't tighten the shock nut all the way, or so I have been told on this forum. It's meant to have some give.

Also, did you tighten the nut with the wheels in the air or the wheels on the ground?

Thanks for all the replies everyone. Yes my panhard bar nuts are super tight with Loctite and so is everything else. I didn't have this problem until I installed the shocks. And I always load the suspension when torqueing the fasteners.

I called am and they want me to take it to a shop and send them a diagnosis. Which is somewhat understandable but it would cost me more to have that done than replace the shock out of pocket. Here in Germany everything is so expensive and paid in Euros. Not USD. Even if I could find a place to get a free estimate I don't have the time. So I told am no thanks I'm gona consider this a loss and buy elsewhere. Kind of blows I've bought over $10,000 in parts from them and they give me **** over a $75 shock.
