If I remember correctly you have to drop the glove box down and there will be 2 bolts holding the air bag module in. Don't forget to unhook the battery before doing this. Once you get the air bag module loose then slide it out far enough to in plug the harness. Then you are done pull the module out.

Do the panels separate from the bag?

K.. Having the panels done in carbon fiber so I guess I'll just have to give it a shot.

Here is a .PDF file of how to do it. It is the same with new Mustangs. Once you get it out, pry it off the "hooks" with a flat head screw driver.

BTW.....MAKE SURE YOU UNHOOK one of your BATTERY TERMINALS! just to be safe. There is some jakwad on youtube that removes the panels by PRYING the sides up. Please dont be retarded. You will or can ruin the panels. That guys video has probably caused more damage to peoples dash than can be believed. It is so easy to do it right, there is absolutely no reason to bend and ruin anything

From my experience you don't have to unhook the battery(although I will). As long as you don't turn the key on. I've done prolly 125-150 leather kits a lot of which have airbags

I hear ya. Just the thought of that bag blowing while you would be working on it makes the couple of mins worth of unhooking the terminal. Better safe than sorry.
Here is the old base dash I removed before installing a Boss dash. I wrapped it in 3M carbon fiber. Just sold the dash in a Mustang parts Facebook site yesterday.

Do you have a sample of both? I'd leave the chrome rings

Nah sure don't. Btw the airbag does separate from the panel.. You gotta cut some plastic tabs off and I'll have to glue them back

You dont cut those tabs to seperate the air bag unit from the panel. Like I stated in the earlier post, use a flat head screw driver to remove those tabs by lifting them over the hooks. Those tabs play a significant role when your air bag is deployed. They are designed as "hinges" to hold the top and bottom of the panel together on the dash allowing them to open like doors in the center when the air bag deploys. If you glue them and they glue doesn't hold, the whole panel will become a projectile in front of your airbag when it deploys. Good luck getting it glued back together properly.

I do interior work for a living. I can handle it. And I attempted to lift them over the hooks with no luck.. They were tearing and would have broke anyway. I'll use a special kind of hot glue that actually bonds to the plastic. And I only cut them off one side

Yup.. Never messed with a air bag in the dash but done 100+ leather kits, which includes covering consoles, door panels and all sorts of stuff. And as I said THEY DID NOT PRY over the hooks.. I tried that and that woulda been much simpler had it worked..
