I own a 2013 V6 Premium and will be making the jump to a GT in the next few weeks and I was wondering if you guys would share your opinions with me. What do you think about me taking a 2013 GT Premium and giving it a V6 appearance mod. As in getting a trunk without the spoiler, de-badging the 5.0 on the side and figuring out what to do about the hood vents? I love the look of the California Special GT's, but I also like catching people off guard as well. Do you think it's disrespectful to do to the 5.0; do you think it would actually fool people at the track into thinking it was "just a V6"?

"Sleepers" were the thing back in the 60s-70s. One of the greatest was the 64 Chevy II with a 327, steel wheels and hub caps. Change the V8 badge to a 6 badge and it looked like your mom's car.

They are always cool.

It's your car; do what you want with it.

I wouldn't as i love the hood louvers. that said it is a cool idea and I like it. the one thing I would tell you before you get started is that tehre are holes in the body on the fenders where the 5.0 badges are. They like hook into them. I switched the stock on mine for black ones and noticed that. Just a tidbit... you will need something there but could do the pony Like some V6 have

I love sleepers. Before the end of last race season I was at the track with a guy who brought an early 1990's Taurus. It looked like a piece of crap, but it ran mid 12's. It definitely turned heads and won some races.

In the end, I'll buy whatever I think will look nice and give it that personalized feel that I enjoy. However, other people's input is always a help. Thanks.

If you want to build your own sleeper, than I say go for it. It'll definitely be different compared to most 5.0's and you certainly may catch a few people by surprised. Although, I the 5.0 can really only stay a sleeper if you keep the exhaust super mild or stock. If you upgrade the 5.0's exhaust at any point, it's going to be clear your Mustang doesn't have a v6.

Then again if you're just rolling on the highway, no one will be able to hear the exhaust until you get on it anyways. Just something to keep in mind!

Congrats on the 5.0 upgrade btw!

Thanks Shane, speaking of which. How do I earn the 6% AM discount? Myself and a friend were thinking about intake/tune/driveshaft changes to our cars.

its a cool idea to have a sleeper, i had a mazdaspeed3 and caught everyone by surprise, this was before the new gens, back then no one knew what a mazdaspeed3 was. i say go for it, and yea to be a sleeper you need to keep exhaust quite, also shouldn't really lower much if at all to keep a stock look. that said i wouldnt do it to my 5.0, just not my style.

If you look around the forums folks have done that, switched out badges, etc. Sleepers are always cool.

I agree with the above. The sleeper idea is cool, but if you ever upgrade the exhaust your element of surprise is gone. Not sure I would call that a downside

If you were going to go sleeper I would debadge it, kill the fog lights and go with the billet grille. You could probably get away with leaving the hood alone, especially with a black car, its harder to notice.

Can't make this car a sleeper. Buy yourself a Lincoln and add a twin turbo to it... That is a true sleeper. :-p

The AmericanMuscle forum discount code is for active MEVO members with 50+ forum posts. I see you're at about 18 at the moment, which is a good start. Just keep interacting with other forum members, ask questions, or help others, and you'll hit 50+ rather quickly.

Once you hit the 50 mark, shoot me a PM requesting the code. I'll get back to you ASAP!
