XL-18 additive

I have searched and couldn't really find the answer to my question so I decided to make a new post.

What exactly does the additive XL-18 do? Does it simply give the fluid a lower coefficient of friction?

Anyone I know if this attitude makes the fluid have a lower coefficient of friction or higher coefficient of friction

That's why I want to know. Because it makes everyone's transmission shift so much better, I want to know what it does to the fluid it self.

XL-18 additive

I saw a topic about it, ppl said that it makes shifting better and that you could get it from ford. They could order it for you, but it would void warranty if I'm not wrong... Don't know if it's true, but that's what ppl were saying.

This comes standard on the 14' gt. You can use it with royal purple synchro max if you switch to synthetic tranny fluid. I have a bottle of it new that I can sell for $30 plus usps shipping if anyone is interested.

XL-18 is from Ford made for their MT82 trans along with the DCT fluid now, it won't void a warranty but a non authorized non-ford gear fluid sure could... if you are out of warranty, use what you want, if you want a gearbox warranty intact why not use the stuff from Ford without losing any sleep?..

I know what it is. I'm wondering what it does to the fluid. Does it give the fluid a lower coefficient of friction?

I think it must increase the coefficient of friction when oil is squeezed into a film between the synchros. Red Line has a pretty good technical paper about the friction modifiers in their MTL & MT90 manual transmission lubes. Gotta believe the XL18 works similarly.
