302 intake

A guy has the boss intake on craigslist with fuel rails, Throttle Body, purge valve and intake piping. Is that enough to install properly? If I can get for $350 is that a good price?

Yes it is a good price. And you should be able to install it with the intake manifold alone. One thing to be weary of when buying any intake manifold used is to be sure the bolts that hold the actual manifold down to the engine block are not striped. Lots of people, when installing the boss 302 intake manifold torque down the bolts to tight and strip them. This is a problem because the bolts come attached to the manifold. Other than that it seems like a good buy!

You don't need the fuel rails, throttle body, or the purge valve.

You also realize that this intake is designed to work in the upper RPM range, so lower "grunt" will be lost. The Boss 5.0 was designed purposefully to run at high RPM's, and this intake was designed for that.

It is a very sexy looking intake under the hood though, but don't expect it to out perform your current intake in all the RPM ranges.

Your car won't perform well in a tractor pull, but it will haul *** down the road. We run the Boss IM with a 90mm Throttle body and love it. Make sure you intstall 3:73 rear end and you won't miss the torque at all. I will trade a little torque for top end ALL DAY LONG in these cars. Dyno queens will continue to cry about torque though.

A guy offered $450 so think I ost out unless he is BS'ing and gets back to me. That is my dilemna... I drive in town and as a DD. I usually shift before 4,000 unless really having some fun so I have been on the fence about the Boss intake and larger throttle body. The 3:73 are definitely on the list right after I do the suspension upgrade. Then I am sure I will work on the intake/TB just because... well it isnt like I am going to stop moding!! lol

You would need to shift at 7500-7600 minimum to reap the benefits. I might be going with the Cobra Jet intake but will be setting my shift points at 8000.

Scott, your statement is WRONG and that has spread around so much it is like gospel now. LOL

The Boss IM starts seeing gains at 5500rpm THROUGH to 7500/7600. Amazing how stuff gets perpetuated.

Does it start at 5500? Sure. But why would someone put it on and shift it at 7000? It's not always about where you shift but how far the rpm's drop between shifts. So yes you need to shift at 7600 rpm to reap the benefits.

If u shift at less than 7500 with the boss you are not using it to its full potential. I shift at 7800 with mine.

Ok.....what ever. I am not in the mood to argue with a fence post this morning. The Boss IM is not a drag strip power adder or designed for an automatic like you drive, but to say that you have to shift at a MINIMUM of 7500 to benefit from the manifold is still false and misleading.
Performance on these cars doesn't always mean a 1/4 mile drag strip. The Boss 302 wasn't designed for the drag strip. It is a high RPM road course car. Not everyone builds their cars for drag racing so every power adder shouldn't be judged on what it does at the strip.

I've had my GT w Boss IM, Steeda CAI 3.73 gears exhaust for about 10,000 mikes now. I don't miss a bit of torque around town. If it lost some torque down low, I can't really tell but when the tach swings hard right, you will love it! I say buy it if you can but as noted above, make sure the hardware is not stripped.

You may or may not feel the tq loss. But if you know your car you will feel it for sure. It will show up on the dyno though. I lost quite a bit on motor. E85 took care of that problem though.

Stock crank is already forged. No need for a crank.

Go with Manley H beams and diamond pistons.
