MT-82 blues

This whole situation with Ford and this POS transmission is really pissing me off, makes me feel like Ford knows there is a problem but no one wants to work on the cars and replace the transmission until they go all the way out or they grinding in a gear or two. Fell like they say the notchyness will last until the warranty is gone and then F me i can buy another Trans when it goes out. These cars aren’t cheap and i expect more from ford for my money. Seems like every dealership i call about looking at the car is months behind on all the transmission work they have. Mostley on Mustangs with this crappy trans. Come on Ford! Thats why they are saying its normal, because there tired of working on them. Then my CSM offers me a complementary Ford extra care plan for an extended warranty last week. But when i spoke with her today and said i was afraid my warranty would run out before the car was fixed or the problem could even be diagnosed and i would like to accept the extra care plan, she says they have to diagnose the car with a problem first. What the hell good is the service plan if they have to diagnose the problem first? If they diagnose it first then it will be fixed thus limiting my need for the service plan. I’ve had no other issues besides the POS trans and the rattle. I’m just really disappointed with Ford! And I’m beyond pissed about it. I love the power and the mustang name, but these woh's with this trans is making me regret my purchase. I dont believe i should have to spend a bunch of money on the car to fix an issue it should not be having in the first place.

I haven't been to a dealer about my problem yet, but I was wondering what exact problems are you having? My car is a DD and it has been very cold where I live lately and I've noticed that shifting from 1st to 2nd is very hard and even has some grind to it, even with my MGW shifter. I've heard simply changing the tranny fluid can fix a lot of issues with the MT82.

Upon further investigation I see that there IS a TSB about the cold transmission issue. It is issue 11-11-1

2011 Mustang TSB's and Recalls - LatemodelRestoration.com

Not trying to thread jack, just wondering what problems you're having and maybe that TSB could help you out.

Here's a couple notchiness suggestions:

Whiteline trans mount and Steeda bracket. Cheap, works wonders and is easily undone if you don't want warranty grief should it come to that.

MGW shifter, if you really want to attack the whole problem, not just individual symptoms.

My box got sick on its own, very early in life and I had Ford rebuild it after an input shaft bearing packed up without warning at about 3500 kilometers. Since then, all's well and the trans has been down track with the mods listed first here, over 100 times, on slicks. I can't complain but, I admit it was a major headache to get them to accept the fact the trans sounding like a supercharger wasn't normal.

Yeah kinda the same boat. Getting them to accept the fact that it feels like your forcing it into 2nd and 3rd while all other gears go in smothly is a problem and not "just the way the transmission shifts". I dont have much left on my warranty and i feel like im getting jacked around here..

I already have a barton shifter bracket and SS clutch line.

Had the fluid changes to DCT? The DCT made life way nicer in colder temps and shifting overall smoother. It's 2 finger easy, now.

No i put penzoil syncromesh in there, the dealer wants 130 bucks to put the fluid from the TSB in. I thought about going to red line 2 quarts of red line MTL and one of MT-85 to keep noise down alittle. I think it would be a good combo. Also thought about doing two quarts of royal pourple syncromesh and one of max gear 75W-90. I think just syncromesh is too think all by itself and dont feel like its protecting the trans. The Ford QDC fluid is just an automatic transmission fluid right?

I tried Redline MT-90 straight and even up north here, that stuff shifted fine in cold weather. Ford put DCT in it when they rebuilt it and I've had no incentive to change it, though.

That probably has more to do with the new updated parts from the rebuild than the fluid. they changed the syncro design in 2013, hardend the 2nd and 3rd gears and added some coating on them that improved shifting. Or so ive gathered from reading in several different fforums.

i thought about the MT-90 with the MTL as well. Red line says they will mix together fine and work. But of corse they cant recomend any fluid for the MT-82. lol

Well, all they did that I can prove to the gears is phosphate coat them, which just reduces facing wear on break in. The only gear replaced in my case was 5th. All the other clusters were still fine, despite the bearing frag in the case.

Despite it's problems after the bearing went bad (whining noise) the trans still shifted fine.

I have the SS clutch line, and barton bracket. I would like to keep the clutch assist spring because my wife drives it sometimes and I have never had the pedal stick to the floor. Getting the transmission bushing next. Then the shifter. I blew my shifter money buying a lund tune and put in the car on the dyno to see what she was putting down.

Not convinced on the Barton bracket. While it seems idiot proof, I've seen quite a few people report little or no improvement with it. Maybe that's just those cases but, the Steeeda was an immediate and significant improvement.

401hp and 380 torque. Lund said the low numbers were because I pulled in 4th and should have pulled in 5th because 5th is the 1:1 ratio on these cars. I'm happy with those numbers for just intake and exhaust.

Just built motor. Slight head work. Offroad x. Boss intake. Jlt cai. 3" cat back. E85. Redline 8k.

Will be throwing the longtubes back on with stage 3 cams once i get back from arkansas for work. Decided to scratch the turbo and just go dumb with the bottle 2 stages and a dedicated fuel system for the bottle. My tuner/ engine builder convinced me of it today.

Yeah. It's expensive. I built a 4.6 from an 02 model and it was a pain. Cost me 3000 and that's with me doing all the work. I port matched heads. No boaring the block or anything like that.

Saw this online thought it was very interesting. Seems that they changed the bushing and seemed to help the overall feel of the transmission. However, I'm not quite sure if it would fix the notches while shifting?? As I'm experiencing the same thing (especially in the cold weather).

Hi Knight, why does your dealer want to charge you $135 for a TSB that should be covered? I don't get that part?
