Tachometer Acting Up and I am clueless

So I purchased a 2014 GT Monday of this week and Tuesday I started the car and as I drove out of my subdivision the RPMs were 500-750 above the actual performance. I took it to the dealer and they "reset" the instrument cluster and it was fine the rest of the day. Started the car this morning and it did the same thing and it is now back at the dealer and they are doing to required "pin point" testing that Ford is saying they need to do. No information or feedback yet. The only thing I can think of is some type of electrical issue. There is no codes or lights coming on either. Also the car is a manual. Just curious if anyone has experienced this issue and if so what the outcome was. Thanks!

Yeah the IP cluster isn't a bunch of idiot lights any more. It's an integrated part of the cars theft control, traction and stability control subsystems, etc. Let them do their work and figure it out. I bet they just replace the IPC eventually. How do you know it's over indicating? do you have a secondary gauge?

I have not read anyone having this....congrats. I know it's a pain but let them fix it, as you know the intermittant electrical problems are the worst

I know it is off because one I watch the RPMs while I drive and had a good idea of where they were when normal, and two I am able to tell it is off but engine noise and pickup during acceleration. They are saying that they want to replace the instrument cluster and see if that fixes it. They have ordered the parts and they are suppose to be here next week, and for now I am driving a little four banger fusion which is the total opposite of what I purchased so it sucks. I feel like every time I get in it I should hand my man card to someone. I hope the cluster fixes it because if not then I will be close to the last step of entering the lemon process and that will not be fun at all. I wish the dealer would just swap the car out for another one so that I have the car to drive then they could repair this one and sell it later, but I guess they don't like that idea.

Jeez , relax and let them take care of it. Shyt happens. They aren't giving you any grief or telling you it's normal so consider yourself fortunate. I'm sure not convinced on your ear test on rpm. I would want an instrumented method but, well assume they did that.

You're one of those reasons why I am hesitant to join forums. Do you seriously think it is that hard to listen to your car and know a range of where your RPMs are? Thats just knowing your car. Always relying on instrument panels removes the connection to the vehicle. But hey thanks for the response, I will be sure to remove my account this instant because I refuse to listen to stupidity of that caliber.

You're a real peach, Mr. Human Tachometer.... see ya later. If this is how you acted in the dealer I'm surprised they were willing to assist you at all.

I'm not saying your wrong, but how good do you know this car you have had it since Monday.....? The advice I give to all you guys with brand new cars is bring it to the dealership and call it a day. As long as they aren't giving you **** which someone of them do, then you should be all set they will take care of you and get you back on the road.

I get that he's upset with a brand new car being in the shop right away, and would feel the same way if I was in his shoes.

This is honestly the first time I've ever heard of this so I would like to hear what the dealer comes back with.

OP please update us when you get your car back.

We all get it but it sounds like the dealers doing everything to handle the situation. Acting like a dick here or anywhere isn't going to aid the cause.

I had to send my new car in for a transmission rebuild after about 2500 miles. Try that disappointment on...and that was the negotiation of my life to get them to accept responsibility for that.
