I have been racing for 43 years and somewhat familiar with what a motor likes as far as oil goes. Its rather simple. When its hot out (summer) you're safer with heavier oil (5-50). Particularly if you're on the track. When we start seeing temps of 60* and below switch over to 5-20. I would never race with oil that thin though. Just my 2 cents worth. I know that worked well for our cars.

But if someone isn't racing with their 5.0 track pac then no need to use the 5W 50 weight then.

Personally I always run heavier oil in the summer than in the fall and winter.

I would agree that if you that do not track the car you do not need 5w50 but. you could consider something more than 20 wt.

Totally agree to that. I personally don't use 20 weight oil but that's just me. I use 30 weight.

I run 5w20 in my trackpack with zero issues. I stay with full synthetics, though, and top shelf filters.

I don't go over 2000 miles before I do an oil change. But my GT is a toy not a daily driver.
