A member of my local mustang club posted on our clubs Facebook page about his #8 cylinder just failed and the piston is cracked! I have meet this member once or maybe twice at our clubs monthly gatherings and can't say how he drives his pony. I have no idea if he runs his pony hard or tracks it weekly or monthly.

This club member owns a 2011 5.0 and it is tuned by a somewhat local tuning company according to him and his words after I asked him via Facebook. Its NOT a Bama, Steeda, MPT, Lund, VMP, etc tune.

Apparently the local tuning company told this guy, out of 100 5.0's they tuned this was the first one to have a #8 failure. From posts made by this club member, it didn't seem like that local tuning company was going to take any responsibility for the failure (not saying they should or shouldn't) and looks like dude is left to pay for a new # 8 piston.

Just goes to show how important ones choice is in a tuning company.

Stock 5.0's were loosing # 8. The stock tubes from ford already run a little lean. Plus the stock pistons in the 5.0's are junk.

I wonder what it costs to fix the #8 piston?

Not sure. He is better off just doing a full rebuild. Rods/ pistons. The crank is already forged.

My full motor rebuild was $5,890 out the door. Manley H beams/ diamond pistons. All ARP hardware. Billet oil gears.

So do you think forged rods and pistons will be less or is that the same rebuild as you did ?

That's what I did. Forged Manley H beams. And forged diamond pistons. He can get it cheaper by going with different pistons than I did

#8 Failure on 2011 5.0

If he got a v6 he wouldn't have had this problem

I personally know of two people who have had their #8 cylinders go. Both 100% stock. Both ended up with new engines from Ford (still under warranty), both cars were sold as soon as they were fixed.

Also, I have only heard of this on the 11 and 12's.

I'm not sure about the millage of this guys 11 but with it being tuned good luck getting Ford to fix the piston. Lol

I'm surprised to hear stock 5.0's having # 8 cylinder issues. I thought it was more for tuned 5.0's .

No the stock tune is very ****y itself. It runs lean up top.

All in all the 5.0's really were a crappy build motor wise. You have to throw $$ into them to be bullet proof.

There have been many stock cars that have blown their motors. Shaun from AED discovered something terribly wrong in the factory tune.
