Stock Shifter?

I been hearing things about how shifting in 2nd gear or some gears are bad with the stock stick shift? What about yours? Any problems? Any recommendations on which to get? (Thanks! Soon to be GT owner)

Its not the shifter itself. It is the bracket.

I have a hurst shifter on mine but its just a replacement for the stock extension. It doesnt replace the whole shifter. I do not like it! Im looking into a steeda replacement for the whole shifter and a ford type shift knob from American Muscle.com!

I have a 2014 GT and just upgraded to a Steeda short shifter and bracket from AM. There isn't anything seriously wrong with the stock shifter or bracket they are just low quality (well the bracket anyway) that will cause problems, they are just squishy and soft. They have a lot of give. Also when the gearbox is still cold, shifting from first to second can be difficult. Once it warms up shifting is smooth as butter (sadly upgrading the shifter and bracket doesn't solve this, but it makes it better).

Get your GT and see how you like it. If you can tolerate the shifting when cold and the regular softness then you don't need to do anything. If not, plan on about a $300 upgrade.

Surprised no one has mentioned the MGW shifter. Well pleased with mine, make shifting much more positive and I no longer get "lost" in there. Shifting seems much more second nature and natural with the better precision.

I agree. I've been pleased with my MGW as well. This is the second GT I've installed one in.

I prefer Barton over the MGW. The Barton has the shortest throw

The Barton 2 post bracket made an improvement in shift feel. I plan to add the Barton shifter down the road or mgw
