Installation of Silverhorse Racing Flush mount louvers

We installed SilverHorse Racing's flush mount louvers. They sell a kit that makes removing the quarter window glass super easy. The most time consuming part of the process is removing the trim and taking the edge back a few mm.
One key that I would like to pass along is when you remove the window, trim the leftover adhesive and leave about 1/16 on the body. Key is when running a bead for the install, do a BIG bead. It needs to be about 1/2" thick. This allows you to press the louver to exactly flush with the body.
If your bead is not big enough, you begin to put the louver in place and find that it sits below flush.
All in all, these look SO good in person. Definitely has a retro look as well and looks like they are part of the car design and not a "stick on" Visibility is SO much better than the stick on we had as well.
We are fighting working around in the rain this morning. I will get some good pics of everything once we are complete and get a break in the weather.

Finishing up the Eibach R2 Coilover install on the front.

What happens when it pours? Doesn't the interior get soaked? Or maybe you just garage it if there's bad weather. Sorry I'm a newb to this stuff.

It is sealed. We checked our install with a water hose to make sure no leaks! This replaces your glass and is installed just like your glass. It is one solid piece. Once you get it glued in, it is in just like the glass.

Those look killer...I've been thinking of ordering those for a while now. Not a big fan of the stick on louvers.

Complete visibility. You can actually see out these, unlike the stick ons. The angle is perfect to you in the driver seat. This pic, you can see the back of the driver seat leaned forward.

Yes, painted and clear coated with the matching code paint. It came with a mask to mask it off, so it was pretty easy.

Wait, can't the water get in from a heavy downpour or from washing your car? I know you said sealed but are they not open vents?

Do you seriously think a company would make an open air louver design? They are COMPLETELY sealed and airtight. It's not just open to the elements.

I thought they were open air too. You know, cause that would be the real function of louvers. So it's really not that outrageous of a thing to think.

They don't seem to be hard at all. Microfiber towel. With stick ons, you cant clean the outside glass at all.

I like them a lot. They look perfect. I'm not a fan of louvers either. Only ones that look good and fit the car is the ones you just did deerslayer and the roush ones. All the others just do not look like they belong to me.

Here is a pic from inside looking out. Driver visibility is great. From the drivers perspective you have FULL view looking back at your blind spot.

I really like these louvers a lot as well. I've been considering them for awhile now. But once they're installed there's no turning back.

I mean, you dont hurt the glass at all, so you could reinstall the OEM glass the same way.

You can get spray kits off ebay to DIY that are reasonable compared to what they charge to send them painted. The kit from SilverHorse includes masks to mask off the louvers.
Here is a rattle can setup from ebay.

If there were designed specifically for race applications, then yes, open air and fully functional would be the way to go. These are being sold to people who dd their car though, so they have to be fully sealed and airtight because anybody could get caught in some rain.

Thank you at least someone is thinking outside the box, some people on these boards I swear.

Btw you might wanna rephrase that beginning portion WhoDat, because yes it has been done before. I just barely saw this last week, and saw at most 2 pictures from some other board. Louvers were so clean couldn't even tell they were sealed.

I'm just using common sense. Unless the car was specifically built to only be used on the track, why would you install louvers that leave your interior open to the elements? You wouldn't. I've already agreed that fully functional louvers work, just not in everyday applications.

Istall is pretty easy. Be sure to get the kit they sell for the window removal. Makes it real easy. Simply put a wire around the back edge of the window and work the handles back and forth and it cuts through the sealant quick and easy. Like I stated before, be SURE to put a THICK 1/2" bead down once you trim the old sealant off. Stick in place, gap and tape into position for drying. You do remove the interior panels around the window but they are really easy to remove.

Both, I just cut the adhesive tip they sell not quite half way and ran one bead that wide that strands out about 1/2" First on we were installing, I ran what I thought was a normal bead and it was NOT enough. It pulled right off without a mess luckily and then I learned. Run a big enough bead the first time right on top of where the original bead was.

+1, I'm tired of my stick on louvers, and they are darker red than my car actually is. At some point I'm going to buy these and have them installed.

Installation of Silverhorse Racing Flush mount louvers

I don't know just a ton about body work but would it be possible to fill in the gaps to make it like its part of the car and have something like a 65 fast back? If you were willing to repaint the car obviously.
