Best Locking Lug Nuts for Mustangs

Never used locking lug nuts, but with the wheels we are installing I feel we need too. Those of you who have used them, please give me some ideas on what locking lugs work the best.

In my opinion they are just a way to keep the honest thief away i work in a garage and when ppl lose their wheel locks you can take a 12 point socket and slam it on or snap on and Mac make tools to remove them

We ordered black spline lug nuts for the RTR wheels I have, with spline lugs, you need an adapter to take off any of the lugs.

But all those splined lug nuts are the same size you can get the adapters at just about any parts store.

That has pretty much dead on to how I have always thought about them. I didnt know if there was anything new out there that works differently.

I have two sets of these lug nuts. I've read that they're useless but looking at the design of these particular wheel locks they have a sleeve around the key design.

I'm no wheel thief but I figured if it takes them 5 minutes to break a wheel lock then I'd rather they take that extra time to do so rather than have the wheel unprotected at all.

Same concept locking your doors is quite useless cuz its glass that separates them from whatever's inside. But it doesn't make it less reasonable to keep your door locked.

from a mechanics standpoint I like the design of Gorilla brand. They are easier to use and the it looks like the Mcgards are apt to cam out with their key design. Whatever style you choose what I would do is buy the set with locks for every stud...I bought a set of 24 as it was only $1 or 2 more than the 20 needed in case I ever loose 1. Buy an extra key and hide both in your car as it doesn't do any good at home and pro thiefs will not look for a key. These will stop the junkies but not pros. I also wrap the key socket with painters/duct tape to prevent scratches and write your phone number on it so a tire shop will return it if you forget the key.

well worth the $20-25 but not undefeatable.

It also depends what kind of lock you get alot of them just look bulky and out of place in the wheels but then again if you have black wheels and get black lug nuts you wouldn't notice to much.

The best locking lugs are ones that don't come off with a universal nut removal socket. I have a set of these and have yet to run into any locking lugs I couldn't get off when the owner didn't have their key. Find one and get back to me.

Like stated above, I am sure a pro thief would be able to get any locking lug nut off, but if it were a big PITA or makes it difficult, it may be worth it. On the wheels we have now, I wont consider it worthwhile, but when we put on the high end wheels, I almost feel I NEED to do something.
Thanks for the ideas and comments

The intent is there but again it's no more difficult to remove a locking lug without a key than a regular 6 - sided nut. How long to swap sockets on a breaker bar?

Once I figured this out several years ago I realized, "why bother?" If they want 'em, they'll get 'em.

I look at it likes this, if it makes it that much harder they might just move on to easier prey. Any extra couple of minutes might not be worth it when they can just find another car. That said if you have some uber expensive wheels I'm pretty sure it wont matter. If they want them they'll get them.

We are going with these forged PuR RS05 wheels. We ordered them in matte black tho. They should be ready in a couple of weeks. We will have our Drifts for sale at that time.
