Tuned... now what...

Oki doki folks...
I have an off road lethal performance h-pipe and that's frikken it right now...
My SCT X4 tuner just came in and I did 2 things...
1.) Turned off the rear O2 sensors...
2.) Put her on the 91 octane tune (that's the highest octane we got here in New Mexico)...

Is that all i am able to do until i buy more goodies for the car right now??? Or did I miss something...

Thanks for the help

The canned SCT tune has been known to be unsafe. Plus it doesn't touch the cam timing which is where the power is made. I would recommend a good email tune from someone like Lund or AED. If your car is a manual I would address the shifter. Don't forget suspension.

I don't know what you mean by the "canned" SCT....
Also any hard proof of this unsafe tuning you speak of?
If they are unsafe, why wouldn't it get fixed?

Canned meaning the generic tune that is loaded to the SCT tuner by default. A very generic tune isn't necessarily unsafe, but because no two vehicles are exactly the same, it's not exactly the good either. If you purchase e-mail tunes online, they will ask specific questions about your vehicle and then should even datalog the tune once it's loaded to the car so that they can dial it in as best as possible. Who did you buy your tuner through?

don't mess with global timing, it's long been talked about to be dangerous with these cars, as are the strategy (or canned tunes as theyre nick named) tunes as they are known to be aggressive. I'd honestly hold off on messing with anything, you could find yourself being a #8 piston statistic fast, find a good reputable tuner to set you up. I recommend Shaun from AED

Better get on suspension if your going to spray or get beat by Bolton 5.0's off the bottle. To many people nowadays are throwing nitrous kits on there cars with no clue on anything.

#8 piston **** is overrated to begin with, stock cars were throwing #8 as the stock tune is just as ****y as a caned tune. Or other so called " custom " tunes.

really? do you think its a good idea to tell someone that is wanting to throw global timing at his ecm that the #8 issue is overrated? its not overrated at all man, it happens and its costing people large amounts of money to repair, ok so supposedly there have been instances of stock cars with #8 failures, but the thing is they get repaired under warranty, a tuned car owner isnt as fortunate, for you to say #8 failures are overrated is plain stupid and irresponsible

If it blows go built. Simple enough said. If your worried about a warranty go buy a smart car.
If you bought your mustang to mod and keep a warranty or worried about something breaking. Go buy a smart car. And it is over rated.

The number 8 cylinder issue is definitely alive for the 11 and 12 5.0 models which is why its so important for one to choose their tuning company wisely.

They gave you some excellent advice in this thread. Put the tuner down before you brake something. Buy tunes for life from Steeda or AM and load them into the car. When you run 91 octane you need to have the tune loaded for it then upload it into the car plus consideration needs to be made for your off road xpipe. Grabber Blue knows his stuff. The best result is having one of the people he mention build a custom tune for you. Also, suspension is the next mod you need before you make any big changes in power.

I don't see which tires you have on the car but you will need to upgrade those too.

Thanks for the advice. Is there a way to just have the factory tune in still but have the rear O2 sensor turned off Bcuz I am catless????????

Right now I am on one of these "canned" tunes. due to the o2 sensor... i'll make sure and stay off of the throttle for sure though.

Tuned... now what...

The only change made in a custom tune for off-road x or h pipe is to turn off the O2 sensor! I believe you can manually turn it off via the tuner but if your running a tune that isn't stock that feature might be locked out.

Well hell I also forgot to mention that I have a JLT intake... so just the intake and the off road h pipe...
Would I be smart to be on the 87 octane tune and run 91 so it'll be safer for now until I can get a tune into it???

Ok I looked at both AED and Lund (thru beefcake) and I'll go ahead and get one of those tunes...

Next question is:
When I get my nitrous tune will it totally CLEAR this tune? Or will I be able to switch back and forth?
I don't always want the car to spray when I hit my set window switch rpm... just when I want to spray...
Hope that all makes sense!

I agree that the #8 issue is overrated. Does it happen?....sure. But the interwebz blows everything out of proportion. No one even talks about that **** anymore.

Kona Blue mentioned that this was an issue with the 11 and 12 year models...
Anyone heard if it was fixed or if the 13 and 14 years are also experiencing this still?

If I were you I would pull the JLT intake off and put the stock air box back on. Revert to stock ford tune and leave the h pipe on. H pipe isn't going to damage the motor the intake will if the tune isn't right resulting in a lean condition. Get a Lund or AED tune upload it, datalog and have them check it.

As for your question about your nitrous tune and your non nitrous tune. The tuner you have has the ability to hold several tunes. You will have more power on your non nitrous tune driving, upload your nitrous tune and it will be richer to compensate for when you hit the bottle.

I've seen a few 13's with bad motors. All were tuned though by the same company.
