Hitting the track tomorrow

Alright guys, I'll be taking the car to LVD tomorrow to get a few passes in an see what she does. Besides a fluid check, tire psi check, do you guys do any other kind of prep for the track that I may not be thinking of? Also, when running down the track, TC obviously goes off. But I was wondering if people were taking it a step further and turning off the advanced stability controls as well. Just wanna hear some opinions and some ideas before I head out there tomorrow.

Thanks guys and gals,

Thanks guys and gals,

Make sure you have the correct clothing. Most drag strips require long pants and no sleeveless shirts, like muscle shirts. Usually short sleeve shirts are fine. If your car runs fast enough, you will also need a helmet. You can probably rent a helmet at the track if you don't have one.

NHRA rules say that a 13.99 or faster needs a helmet, which is easily doable for a 3.7

Ahhhh yes. I knew about the clothing and helmet policy but I really appreciate the reminder. Track rules state 13.99 and under requires a helmet so I'm definitely bringing one because I think this car could run that without a driver lol. We'll see tho because I'm on the stock garbage pirellis lol.

Yeah soccerluvr. I ran a 13.8 in my new edge back in the day, and the 5.0 is almost double as fast, so I'm DEFINITELY bringing a helmet.

Fuel is a double-edged sword. More fuel means more weight over the rear tires, but also more weight to haul down the track. Our track is out in the middle of the country also, so you don't want to run out of gas before you can get back to a station.

Yeah I plan on getting to the track with a bit over 1/4 tank. There's a station 10 minutes down the road. I just wish I didn't have to pay the 20/30 cent hike of NY gas when I fill up lol.

Usually 1/2 tank is a good spot to be at

Years ago I went to the track right from work with friends. Hadn't been there in years. Packed shorts because it was a warm summer night. Went through tech inspection and was reminded of the pants rule. I ended up wearing dress pants all evening. If I would have remember that rule, I would have packed jeans instead. Needless to say, I was the best dressed racer that evening!

Yeah, I usually try to roll in with that amount. With the mileage the 3.7 gets, that's probably plenty. Haven't been down with the Mustang yet. Last time I was there was with my LT1 a few years back.

For street tires, drive around the box and do some dry hops if you feel the need. Don't take street tires through the box or they will drip from within the treads on the starting line and make some people very unhappy.

Thanks man, I appreciate that. I'm also used to launching at 5500rpms in my subaru and just going. It's gunna take me a few passes to get into the swing of things and find that sweet spot. Haven't dragged RWD in about 8 years.

Search the forum for Christmas Tree and look for the thread titled Bracket Racing that was last updated on 3/26/14. There are some tips and ideas in there some of us were passing back and forth.

Straight 93 octane (not corn oil gas station gas with ethanol) is $4.56 a gallon here and only two places to get it so anytime I get to a half tank I go fill up due to the lack of real gas around.

Can't say I'm impressed with myself. I felt the car had a lot more in it. 4 runs all mid to low 13's with strange traps ranging from 107-110. The slip posted was my lowest trap. After a quick inspection, my adjustable panhard bar was loose. Could that be interfering with my times? Had to slip the crap out of the clutch. Any other method the crap tires just spun and spun. I feel the car has 12's in it. I need DRAG RADIALS!!!!

The "zero" in P-zero stands for the amount of traction that those tires are capable of...

Lol I quickly found that out haha. Crap 60ft. It had more in it, but the passes were few and far between because of the amount of people there. I was experimenting with where to launch at, and I took TC of one time. That was a mistake. I was all over the place. Just need some sticky rubber for 12's

I forgot to make mention gents, that my 13.1 run was with TC on. I turned it off for one run, and I spun like an SOB still launching at a relatively low RPM. Is that normal? I had assumed all along that when I got to the track, I'd be hitting that button to turn it off. Sadly, it made things extremely worse, and I had better runs with it on. Anyone experience that?

I wonder what would happen if you turn it off after you get going?

I have no idea. But my first run was a 13.7 with it on. I'm like, ok, there's no friggin way my 04 GT with a full exhaust can do a 13.7 and this 5.0 can't do better. Turned it off my next run, spun so bad I got out of it towards the end because I was so pissed and got like 15.5 or some crap. Totally disappointed. Turned it back on and went 13.1, and 13.3 respectively. And it's funny because the 13.3 "felt" faster.
