Key Fob Question

Hey guys....and gals

Just bought a used 2011 GT here in Austin TX and something has been bothering me. Carrying around this big a$$ key. My old car, the key and the key fob were seperate so I would just carry the fob in my little front, I guess watch, pocket and leave my keys in the car. Never had any issues so please no bashing telling me that's a dumb idea, I'll take my chances. So my questions is can I cut the key off the fob and both still work? I don't see a way to take the fob apart, other than to replace the battery, so cutting it seems to be the only option. I wouldn't use that key, I would just use my second key as they key I leave in the car.

Thanks

The fob has a chip in it. If you cut the key off you won't be able to start the car.

Do I have any other options? Can I just buy an aftermarket remote without a key that is only used for locking, unlocking, and trunk release? I did a quick search online and didn't see a remote/fob without a key.

If you cut off the key from one, it can be used as a remote only; the other key you keep in the car, uncut, could still function fully.

Another option would be to get a flip key:
2011 13 Ford Mustang ALIN1 Flip Chip KEY Keyless Entry Transmitter Click Remote | eBay
After you get it programmed to open the doors and/or start the engine, you can remove the key portion from it.

I have one, but have stopped using it because the buttons are so sensitive that having it in my pants pocket while sitting has set off the panic alarm.
