AED Tune...Knock Sensor

Has anyone had issues trying to datalog for the AED tune and getting a high reading on the knock sensor? Around 3.5 at 6800rpms?

What could be the cause for this?

I had the same problem. Turned out to be bad 93 octane gas in my area.

I tried the first time with less than a quarter tank of gas. Then I filled up with 93 and tried again and got the same results. Could it have been bad both times? Maybe I should try an octane booster?

I tried 93 from several different companies, and all resulted in a ton of knock activity. In order to rule out the possibility of false knock readings, I mixed pump gas and Sunoco 105 race gas, which yielded great data logs. There have been several others who have had issues with bad gas. I'm on e85 now.

Are the knock readings (+) or (-)? Negative knock sensor readings mean it is advancing timing, whereas positive knock sensor readings mean it is retarding timing. So, negative values are Good. The positive values are the ones to watch out for. If you look back a page or two in the forum, i have a thread very similar to this.

Datalog - Knock Sensor

The readings are positive. Are there any good octane boosters? Lucas oil octane booster?

Is it knocking at WOT or under partial load? I had a few positive knock values, but all were under 30% throttle (and low RPM) so I wasn't too concerned. These were a max of 1deg though. I've never used octane boosters myself, my dad swears by Torco in is procharged 04 mustang. There's a few threads on here talking about them.. most people say that they are a waste of time/money and can foul plugs and clog fuel filters. Apparently the tune needs a few degrees of timing pulled. Hopefully AED can resolve that. may be beneficial to ask for an 89 or 91 tune for the time being - then run 93oct in it..

I ended up putting in 5gal of octane 100 race fuel in it and the knock is now gone, confiming the gas was bad. I'm going to empty the tank and try a different station. The whole reason Im going through this is to get the AED tune... Im trying to avoid having to get another tune and working with BAMA on any issues.

I've heard good things about aed. Hopefully the fuel was the only problem! I tend to stick to shell/exxon whenever possible. I just meant that it may be good to have a backup 89 tune for the instances where you get bad gas.. Program the 89 tune to prevent knocking and Reinstall the 93 once you get the good stuff again. I currently only have a steeda 93 tune and haven't had issues with bad gas, but I plan on doing just that..

You won't necessarily notice bad gas, I didn't notice it driving. I picked it up in the process of datalogging. Your car will automatically adjust for it by adding or removing timing.

Welcome to last week. I've been willing for quite a while now to give somebody out there $50, free and easy. This is factual information!
